!!CANCELLED!!

Thaxted Live and Thaxted Festival are very sorry to announce that due to bad weather the Windmill Music Event this Saturday is CANCELLED.
The decision has not been taken lightly but access to the Windmill is not practical after rain, plus the forecast for the actual event is not great either.
Our apologies to everyone who was planning to be there - we hope to host an alternative event soon.

Returning to Thaxted Live for our windmill event on the 13th July is Thaxted’s own busking, live-streaming, gigging - Ben Smith.

This talented singer-songwriter and rocker is set to captivate audiences with his energetic originals, including 'Shut Out,' 'Stuck in a Maze,' and many more, plus exclusive unreleased tracks from his upcoming album.

Ben has built a dedicated fanbase through his popular live streams on Twitch and TikTok, where he brings the streets of Saffron Walden, Bury St Edmunds, and Sudbury to life with his vibrant performances. Supported by his online community, he continues to innovate and connect with fans worldwide.

Our second band to play at the Windmill on July 13th is The Oscar Nominated. Thaxted folk might know their drummer Kevin Starr who lives in the town. They rehearse here too - and have been regularly gigging in London and various festivals. We are lucky to nab them for our headline slot. Read more about them below:

The Oscar Nominated are a five piece guitar band from Hertfordshire/Essex who create hook laden, vibrant, indie rock.
The band features Dave Carver (guitar) and George Kaye (vocals), Kevin Starr (drums),Patrick Bennett (guitar) & Ian Starling (bass).
They have released three singles “Things Are Easier When I’m Not Thinking” “Bring the House Down” and “Swim In Different Circles”…. the band are currently finishing their debut album which is due out in 2024.

One of the two bands playing at our Windmill event on July 13th is Arcane Moon. Find out more about them below:

Arcane Moon are a new originals rock band from Essex. Josh (Guitar / Vocals) and Matt (Drums), both from Stebbing, met through a prior band and started writing together in May 2023. With quite different but complimentary musical backgrounds, the guys immediately formed a strong creative collaboration. Influenced by bands like Radiohead, Chilli Peppers and The Police, Arcane Moon combines soulful melodies with a driving groove.

With a handful of songs written, the guys set up building the rest of the band. Joe (Bass) joined in January 2024 and Scott (Keyboards / Vocals) joined in March 2024. Arcane Moon plan to release their first EP later in 2024. The guys have 6 festivals booked for the summer and will be gigging across Essex, Norfolk, London and Herts through the rest of 2024.

Our opening act at the Windmill Gig is singer Songwriter Mark Lindsell. Mark is a local farmer by day, but has always kept his passion for playing alive. Some of you will remember him in Saffron Walden band Jackastory back in the day, those heady days at the Walden Club! He has more recently played at Elton Johns Birthday bash and now divides his musical talents between a couple of local bands and also perfoming solo. Catch him this weekend at the fantastic Fete de la Musique in Saffron Walden (12-1 Railway Arms) and opening our Windmill event at 2pm 13/07/24.

Local band The Oscar Nominated are playing in Soho on March 23rd at The Spice of Life. This is a great venue with 4 or 5 bands on the bill that evening. There is a minibus, organised by the band, there and back from Thaxted with some spaces left. If you are interested please contact Kevin Starr (the drummer) on 07713 640265

SAVE THE DATE!
Thaxted Live is a not for profit organisation set up by a group of individuals to promote local live music. We have run events and gigs in Thaxted and donated funds to schools and organisations to promote musical endeavours.
Our aim is to create opportunities and venues for local musicians to play and be paid a fair wage, and for audiences to be able to enjoy live music in Thaxted.
Then Covid came along and stopped us.
But this year we are back!!
We have been asked by Thaxted Festival to help organise an event at the Windmill on July 13th, 2-6.

This will be a free event, and there will be live music, a food truck and a licensed bar.

(Watch this space, we will be putting an open call out for bands/acts to play soon. We are looking for acts with at least some original music, played live)
