Around six months ago, artist Mikey Logan reached out to offer an extraordinary gesture of support for Dunoon Burgh Hall. He told us he wanted to create a stone sculpture that could be offered to help raise funds for the Hall. Last Thursday, we had the pleasure of meeting Mikey in person as he unveiled the remarkable piece he has titled Moongate.
To say we were overwhelmed would be an understatement. The craftsmanship and detail in Moongate are exceptional. The stone itself is sourced from a range of fascinating origins, including an ore believed to be a potential meteor from Kenya, alongside materials gathered from historic locations across Scotland.
Moongate is now on display in The Gallery at Dunoon Burgh Hall, where visitors can view this truly unique work of art. We warmly encourage everyone to come along, experience the piece in person, and show support not only for the Hall but also for Mikey’s incredible generosity and artistic talent.
The sculpture is looking for its “forever home,” and perhaps it will be the piece that speaks to you.
When we asked Mikey what motivated him to support Dunoon Burgh Hall, he spoke of the powerful sense of community the Hall represents. Though he no longer lives locally, he recognises the Hall’s importance at the heart of Dunoon, and the need to ensure it remains open and thriving for generations to come.
From all of us at Dunoon Burgh Hall, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Mikey. His gift is more than a sculpture — it is a piece of history, a symbol of solidarity, and a generous contribution to the ongoing journey of preserving this cherished space for the community.
Mikey also has a sculpture called The North Gate displayed at Inverness Castle Gallery. You can read more about it below:-
