A great addition to the Botanic Garden! We would highly recommend trying it out!

A new app that uses augmented reality to transform Durham’s Botanic Garden into a surrealist sensory experience will launch on Saturday, 4 May.

The Alice Dalí app was developed by Dr Mads Haahr and Dr Svetlana Rudenko of Trinity College Dublin and Haunted Planet Studios. They have collaborated with Dr Kelly Jakubowski in our Department of Music to bring it to life in the Botanic Garden – the first time it will be launched in the UK.

The free app includes a navigation game in which users search for augmented reality art and music using a radar on their mobile phone screen. It is based on Lewis Carroll’s book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and features paintings by Salvador Dalí as well as a unique soundscape created for the experience. At the free event, visitors will have the opportunity to hear from the developers and try out the app for themselves. The app has been designed for children aged 5-12 working with an adult. 👉 https://brnw.ch/21wJcPS 👈
