The Story so far...
The How, Now and Why?
Sometimes the first question a couple asks me when we meet is, ‘how did you become a wedding planner’?, and so I thought I’d get vocal and put it out there.... the story so far.. At the first opportunity I left school, OMG I couldn’t wait to escape! Don’t get me wrong some kids fit in perfectly to school life - I didn't! College, my first glimpse of higher education and whoa freedom, like minded souls who understood me and for once I got them too. The teenage girl who started out hating education discovered she had a thirst for information and knowledge. I qualified as a Project and Procurement manager, I quickly climbed the corporate ladder yet continued to study (where did this need come from), while also working in hospitality something I’d done since being a student. People have always been ‘Interesting’ I studied Business Psychology and Ethics while in the corporate world and more recently I ve returned to Psychology again this time specialising in why women become entrepreneurs., especially mumenpreneurs (thats me), its a personal passion, interest and where it will lead I don't know yet! Wedding planning – some would say it found me rather than the other way around! I left corporate to have my two babies who are now taller than me (Still trying to get my head around that one), Discovered very quickly that grandparents don’t offer babysitting services at 5am...... So from an idea, vision and truly authentic place I created North East Wedding Planners, ten years on it has grown from passion to purpose. The service becoming niche, concentrating on large build weddings involving marquees, sperry tents, quirky venues or land crying out to be transformed into a festival, or lavish luxury wedding. North East Wedding Planners and I have won multi industry awards, featured within blogs and TV, something I never could have dreamed of, it was always and still is about the couples I work with. Professionally and personally I ve had access to land, estates and experiences that have blown my mind, opportunities to work alongside English Heritage, The National Trust (Don’t want to pop a marquee stake through anything of interest underneath the ground) Alnwick, Langley, Lumley, Durham & Brancepeth Castle, Fruscoe & Coniston Estates and very closely with Lord Durham on the Lambton Estate. NEWP couples desire something different, unconventional, alternative while still personal and executed with experience. There’s still that moment; 11pm the night of the wedding, formalities over, celebration in full swing. I always take a few minutes to stand back, breathe, soak up the awesome atmosphere electric with love, happiness, music and laughter. An honour and privilege to play an integral part in such a special day. Its a unique feeling and one I just don't get tired of experiencing. Donna
