It was both an honour and a pleasure to host at Owlpen for The Magic Flute this week. We loved seeing so many friendly faces enjoying picnics in the gardens, and we were blown away by the high standards of every performer. We adore our gardens and grounds here at Owlpen, and every day it is a joy to come to walk so that we can bask in our own little Garden of Eden.

But looking after them takes a lot of work, so we need your help!

Do you know someone in need of a summer job?

Or are you looking for extra hours over the summer?

We are looking for someone to help out in the gardens and grounds of the estate, as we can't do it all ourselves. So much to do, and not enough hands to do it!

As the evening draws in on All Hallow's Eve we keep a candle lit for the many souls who have passed through this old house. Perhaps our most famous long-term resident is Queen Margaret of Anjou, who is said to have spent the last happy night of her life here in May 1471, en route to the fateful battle of Tewkesbury. On the field and during the massacre afterwards, hundreds of her men-at-arms lost their lives, including her son, the Prince of Wales, so she spent the last happy night of her life here. She is one of a host of sprites and wraiths who are said to walk the floors here, and the many witch-marks and daisy-wheels on chimney breasts and window cills attest to centuries of superstition. We try to live in peace with our house mates, and we hope to sleep well tonight!

High Spring is the perfect moment for dappled light to have its day. Dappled, that curious word which seems to have no other meaning than this, and yet everyone knows exactly what it is to behold it. The lime leaves are still small, and fresh enough to eat like salad; so sunlight still breaks through and brings on the cowslips, anenomes, primroses, forget-me-nots, garlic, bluebells. Such a joy to be in deep countryside right now! Manor Farm is eagerly awaiting visitors and we are excited for the season to come!

We had a blast filming with of for her American Viscountess series. Her knowledge of English country houses is surely now encyclopaedic with all her travels, and her charm and enthusiasm are infectious. Great to talk spend the day about family, history, and weddings!
