Being in nature feeds the soul. Autumn presents it's magic to us in the form of wonderful golden light, rich, exuberant tones and that unmistakeable crunch of leaves underfoot. It's a season to be embraced in all it's natural glory!

How to get the most out of your Christmas photos..

#1 PRINT THEM!

Christmas photos are perhaps not what you want on your walls all year round, however you could choose a cushion to cuddle or a mug to drink those hot chocolates from as the days get cooler and the nights draw in. Print them up with your favourite image. Gift as a Christmas present to family, or keep yourself to enjoy as the years go by. Because we all like to reminisce don't we?

#2 CHRISTMAS CARDS

Christmas cards seem to be a slowly dying tradition but what grandparent would not want to receive a beautiful card presented in person, or through the post, with a picture of their grandchildren on the front? It will be kept and cherished for many years.

#3 PHOTO ALBUM OR CALENDAR

Stick them into a photo album or calendar. I'm a sucker for a photobook and get huge enjoyment in creating each one. It's so easy to take off a shelf and look through with the kids at any time. Calendars are also a great one for gifting to in laws!

#4 MAKE A SCRAPBOOK

Here's an idea I really love. Make a scrapbook, made from Christmas memories through the years. Maybe this will be the year to start it! Each December, get the kids to help put images in from the year before and gradually, you'll build up a gorgeous momento for you and your kids to look back on once they're all grown up.

#5 DECORATIONS

Families have different christmas traditions. We enjoy getting a new decoration each year for the tree, bought or crafted at home. You could make a tree decoration incorporating some of the images from your session. Take pleasure in hanging it on the tree each year, evoking some lovely memories.

PS - Just 2 slots remaining for my Christmas Kids photo sessions on November 9th! All info/To book -

I certainly want to raise independent children, but boy is it hard to instigate no matter the amount of mouths there are to feed. I lose count of how many times I hear "mummy, I'm thirsty!" "mummy, can you get me some water?" Erm... you know where the tap is, you know where the glasses are, you can do that yourself!

I have an 8 year old and 11 year old and I think they may just be starting to understand that an ipad won't charge by itself and that mum isn't responsible for packing school bags with the stuff they need the night before.

I question them constantly, “don’t you find it irritating to have to wait for someone to do something for you when you can just do it for yourself?"

We all want an easier life where possible and I think consistency is the key thing here. Yes it's going to take a second to get them a drink but in the long run, you're not doing yourself any favours. Maybe I should just tell them I want to be a bit lazier.

Do you feel you’re still doing a lot of what your kids should be doing for themselves? Do you find it an endless losing battle?

"I quickly learned that not only would my kids be fine if I didn’t accommodate their every whim, but they’d be more independent and self-assured, too."

There's no one quite like mum 😍

There are more options than you think when considering outfit choices for my Christmas Photo Sessions!

DRESS FOR THE SEASON
Think comfortable outfits for winter days. Skirts or dresses with tights and boots always look good. As do jeans or trousers with a knitted jumper or shirt. Colourful winter knits will pop in front of the wintery background so yes please for those!

PARTY CLOTHES
Alternatively you can give them the option to dress as if they were going to a Christmas party. Sparkly dresses and glittery tights together with ugg style boots are a match in heaven. Shirts and trousers with braces are very adorable too. Think practical as well, because they will be sledging down the slopes if their imagination takes them there and they need to be able to move around easily.

PYJAMAS
just imagine your children sitting on a sledge in their Christmas pyjamas, slippers and a (pretend) hot chocolate in their hand. Who doesn’t like a pyjama day after all?

ACCESSORIZE!
Add some bells and whistles with ear muffs, hats, scarves, pom poms and fur trims just like father christmas himself. All encouraged if you have them. Bring along a selection to add variety to your photos. Santa hats - certainly! as are any other Christmas themed accessories. Coats and jackets aren't essential as they may get a little too warm, but do bring if you have a certain look in mind, even if it's for just one or two images.

Bear in mind that these photos sessions are only 20 minutes therefore best to choose one outfit that can be accessorised easily instead of a full change.

Get the kids involved and treat it as a pre-session activity to get them excited!

PS - *** BOOKINGS OPEN THIS FRIDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER! Make sure you join the waiting list to get the 20% OFF EARLY BIRD offer 🎅🍭🎄☃🐦 ***

How is it suddenly September?!! My diary is looking good this month in that there are plenty of mid week slots for late summer/early autumnal family sessions in the great outdoors! The leaves have lost their fresh green and are looking rather tired now in the lead up to our next season. Think wonderful light, cooler mornings and those fiery colours that light up the golden chapter that is Autumn... If you are looking for some updated photos for those frames at home this is a wonderful time of year to do that. Send me a DM!

PS. Now that it is September then I don't feel as bad going on about my Children's Christmas Mini Photo Sessions happening this November. Get your name on the waiting list and get VIP access to the early bird offer. More details released soon!

After yesterday's glorious day, the cloud was back over the Forth and it was distinctly chilly on Yellowcraigs beach, 🥶 which meant lots of running around trying to keep warm. Oh, and pretending to be tigers stalking in the long grass!

I know myself it's a special time when cousins living on opposite sides of the world meet. This pair were clearly enjoying each others company when I photographed them yesterday with their wonderful family in picturesque Falkland in Fife. The occasion was made even more special with the arrival of a new cousin just 10 days old 🥰
