Being a teacher with FATOWL would suit someone who wants to working flexibly in Edinburgh & the Lothians - it works perfectly for me around childcare etc, and it's also just the best job ever! We are a really supportive, inclusive company and we are so excited to be growing.

Ideally you would have teaching or volunteering experience with young children or babies, or have transferrable skills and a willingness to learn. The role would suit someone who wants to work flexibly and we are looking for people who are the right fit, whether they can work every day of the week or just one. All teaching is in person and would require you to be able to travel to different venues (the ability to drive to work is desirable) and also willingness to undertake training both internal and from . Rate of pay is currently £20 per hour.

🥶 3 Tips for New Mums Facing Their First Scottish Winter! 🍼❄️

Scottish winters can be a bit daunting, especially when it’s your first time navigating the cold with a little one. Here are our top tips to help you (and baby) stay snug, safe, and happy this winter:

1. Layer Up, But Not Too Much
Babies lose heat more quickly than adults, so layers are key. Dress your baby in **one more layer than you’re wearing - think vests, soft knitwear, and a cosy jacket or snowsuit. Layers trap warmth and can be adjusted easily if baby starts to overheat. Always check baby’s temperature by feeling their chest or back (not hands or feet, which can feel cooler).

2. Respond to Baby’s Cues
Babies communicate their needs, even in the cold. Look for signs like:
- Fidgeting or crying: Could mean they’re too cold.
- Red cheeks or fussiness:Could mean they’re too warm.

Be ready to adjust layers or head indoors for a warm-up if needed.

3. Don’t Forget the Accessories
Hats: Babies lose most heat through their heads. Choose a snug, soft hat that covers their ears.
Mittens & Booties: Keep those tiny fingers and toes toasty, especially for longer outings.
Blankets or Footmuffs: Perfect for prams to add extra warmth while out and about.

And remember, getting out in the fresh air—yes, even in the cold—is great for both you and baby. Take it slow, trust your instincts, and enjoy those crisp Scottish days together!

Our Story

I am a Certified Infant Massage Instructor with the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM) and a qualified Birthlight Baby Yoga Instructor. I provide small group (maximum 10 parents/carers and babies) and one-to-one infant massage, infant yoga and infant sign classes for parents and babies aged between 0-18 months. I also provide small group (maximum 6 parents/carers) and one-to-one massage classes for parents and children aged between 0-7 years who have additional support needs. Infant massage has many benefits and can help: • reduce stress levels and help you and your baby to relax • improve sleep patterns • relieve colic, wind and constipation • develop baby’s language and communication • stimulate muscle tone and growth Baby Yoga perfectly compliments baby massage and expands the benefits of touch with those of movement and relaxation.

I have recently started running ‘Pop Up and Play’ events in Edinburgh and the surrounding area for babies and children aged 0-5 years. I can provide a huge range of toys, equipment and activities at these events and I am available for parties, weddings and any other event.

About me: I launched my business 'From Acorn to Oak With Love’ in 2018 to provide infant massage classes. I then added Baby Yoga and Baby Sign classes. I am also a qualified and experienced Primary School Teacher with over 15 years teaching experience. Most importantly, I am Mum to two beautiful little girls!
