Here is a quick 1 min tour around our fascinating 'Back to The Nomads Tent' Fringe Festival Exhibition. Most of us, one way or another, are descended from nomadic people who moved around to graze their animals, and adapt to seasonal changes for the best crops. Thousands of years ago this was the most common behaviour of human society. How else to do so but travel light! Tents of the types shown in our exhibition are easily the most eco-friendly homes on the planet. They can be carried on a few pack animals and erected in half a day.
Exhibition ends Sunday 25th August
Paul Millard of @redkiteyurts gives a brief introduction to his yurts in this video. If you would like to find out more about yurts do come along to The Nomads Tent Friday 16th August at 3pm. Life for many tribes around the world who depend on animals to subsist has often been a well of textile creativity, spurred on by a kind of joyful competitive spirit, not unlike the urge to buy the latest model of car. Being portable and fit for any of the many needs of their life, weavers produced an amazing variety of bags and trappings, reflecting family, tribal and regional characteristics.
Mafrash, 'A nomadic suitcase' this would be used when it was time for nomadic tribes to pack up all their belongings and travel to new pastures. Our Fringe Selling exhibition 'Back to the Nomads Tent' will also include a lovely selection of Mafrash bags.
