WE ARE LOOKING FOR !

Are you interested in meeting new people and passionate about history? Are you looking for a volunteering opportunity to share your interests with others? We have the solution …. Become a Volunteer Welcomer!

We will be holding induction days on Tuesday 4 and Friday 7 February at 11am (finishing just before 2pm) and we’d love to see you there! You’ll get the chance to meet some of the operations team and current volunteers, discover some of the stories behind and hear more about the role itself.

👉🏽 If you’d like to come along, please email [email protected] with your name and a bit about yourself, what attracts you to the role etc, including which day would suit you best.

If you’re unavailable on both those dates, please do still get in touch and alternative arrangements can be made.

MORE ABOUT THE ROLE

As one of Edinburgh’s iconic attractions; a place of historic, cultural and architectural significance, Greyfriars is simply bursting with stories. As a Welcomer, you will be the first friendly face our visitors will interact with.

💜 It is your role to personalise their visit by sharing your knowledge, encouraging their questions, assisting them in the gift shop, and making them feel welcome!
🗣 It is essential that you are confident in engaging with visitors and members of the public.
🛍 You will also be required to oversee the souvenir shop and learn how to operate our (simple!!!) till system for customer purchases.
⏰ The usual time commitment is about 5 hours per week, 11am – 4pm and this will include a tea break (winter opening times are 11am – 3pm). However, we are happy to consider split shifts if there is a match for the same day.
📅 Welcomers tend to undertake one shift regularly once a week and this is published in advance on a monthly roster.

OUR VOLUNTEERS 👏🏼🤩

Yesterday we held a festive soiree in honour of our wonderful volunteers. From our choir to our Welcomers - you're the heart of Greyfriars and we couldn't do any of it without you! 💜

It was also our lovely Andreia's last day with us. We will miss your happy face but wish you all the best for what's to come.

Merry Christmas when it comes and thank you again for an afternoon of festive fun!

PET BLESSING 2 0 2 4 💜🐾

Last Sunday was our annual Blessing of the Animals Service and our most well attended yet - by both pets and people. We even had a puppy baptism!

A huge thank you again to our partners at Edinburgh Interfaith Association and the volunteers form Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home who helped make the day such a success 👏🏼

The service coincides with the feast day of St Francis of Assisi and World Animal Day - the perfect opportunity to give thanks for all animals and the blessings they bring to our lives!

Thank you to everyone who made our Centenary Ball such an amazing evening.

The music was fantastic, and combined with a fun programme of popular dances everyone kept dancing to the very end. It was lovely to have so many friends dancing with us at this very special event.

Special thanks to Iain MacPhail and his Scottish dance band, our Piper Jamie Crawford, MacKenzies for our delicious dinner and all the staff at Greyfriars Kirk who always go out of their way to assist us.
