Flower of Scotland; Scottish Anthem at Murrayfield Today is the start of the 6 Nations Rugby at Murrayfield. To mark the start of the competition, I popped down to the National Rugby Stadium to record our Scottish National Anthem on Bagpipes. Today is the 25th January. The day that Robert Burns was born. All over the world, Burns Suppers are held, to celebrate the life and works of Scotland’s National poet. This will include eating Haggis, reciting poetry and most likely some bagpipe music too! To commemorate the day, we have recorded a couple of tunes that he wrote. Our 1st event of 2025. We were lucky to be out @borthwickcastle doing our first Highland Games of the year on the 4th January. August is here, and that’s a big month for Bagpipes! In August, Scotland goes a bit more bagpipe crazy than usual! In Edinburgh, the massed Pipes and Drums of the Military Tattoo provide a soundtrack over the city, 6 nights a week during the Festival. I thought I would go and capture a wee video of the march out of the massed bands on their exit from Edinburgh Castle the other night on the first performance. For me this was the inspiration that found me where I am today. Sitting as a small child, watching the scottish spectacular in front of the stunning back drop of Edinburgh Castle, and I decided I wanted to play Bagpipes! In Glasgow, the @pipinglive festival starts next week, with solo piping concerts from some of the best pipers around. Scottish folk bands featuring pipes. Then of course, two days of head to head Pipe Band competition with the World Pipe Band Championships, to judge who is the 2024 best Pipe Bands in the world (this is a graded system, from Novice juvenile bands, all the way up to grade 1 and the pinnacle of adult Pipe Band competition) Lets not forget, Perth. Who are hosting the European Pipe Band Championships on Sunday 11th August.) Taylor Swift: Love Story Reel Time Bagpipe Band at Murrayfield, Scotland With Taylor Swift in Scotland, we were asked to perform a cover of her Smash hit, Love Story. We put together The Reel Time Pipe Band, with full sequined kilts, to play a Scottish rendition of the classic tune, to welcome her to Edinburgh. This coincided with Scottish Gas changing the signage of Murrayfield Stadium, from Scottish Gas to Scottish Lass. Taylor Swift has previously spoken of her Scottish ancestry. So we thought it fitting to play a bagpipe cover of one of her biggest hits, to welcome a Scottish Lass back home to Scotland for her Eras Concert tour. The first of Taylor Swifts UK concerts was at Murrayfield, on 7th June 2024, and it was a pleasure to help with the activation and surrounding press of such a big pop star coming to Scotland. The Reel Time Pipe Band were joined by a crowd of fans, who were eager to hear the Scottish sound of one of her hits, on bagpipes, before the concert. Bagpiper at Dundas Castle Is always fantastic to have a #Scottish bagpipe tune @dundascastle I play a lot of #weddings and #events there, the castle is amazing, and the staff so friendly and welcoming. So took the opportunity to film a #reel of a little #hornpipe called Raigmore. I love this tune, as it was the first tune in the medley we played as a competition #pipe #band.
