Our Story
Royal Holloway's Department of Music offers a thriving and exciting performance department that offers many and broad-ranging possibilities for performance. The performance department is rapidly growing and developing: currently it offers a myriad of different ensembles of all shapes, sizes, and genres - a Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, New Music Collective, an Andean Band, a Korean Percussion Group, a Balkan Ensemble and a Gamelan Orchestra (Gamelan Puloganti), and there is also a very popular student-run Big Band (Undergraduated). Choral Music comprises the Chorus, Founder's Choir and Chapel Choir; the Chapel Choir sings regularly at the College and further afield, broadcasts on the BBC, and engages in tours abroad. In addition, each year there are new student-run ensembles that vary depending on the tastes and interests of current members of the department. The college is also an all-Steinway department, and recently invested in a renewed stock of Steinway and Steinway-designed instruments. The Concert Office is the hub of performance in the Department of Music. Based here is Rebecca Miller (Director of Orchestras) and Nathan James Dearden (Performance Manager). The Concert Office will happily provide information and help regarding the concert season, the orchestras and ensembles, chamber days, and instrumental/vocal lessons. For further information concerning any of our events, concerts or recitals please feel free to contact our Performance Manager, Nathan James Dearden, at [email protected]
