🌾✨ January 31st is the day to make a St. Brigid’s Cross. 🕊️

This cherished tradition is celebrated on the eve of St. Brigid’s Day (February 1st), honouring one of Ireland’s most beloved patron saints. 💚🇮🇪

These beautiful crosses, traditionally woven from rushes or straw, are believed to bring St. Brigid’s blessings and protection to the home for the year ahead. 🏡✨ St. Brigid is celebrated for her kindness, generosity, and deep connection to nature, as well as her ties to spring, renewal, and new beginnings. 🌼

Crafting a St. Brigid’s Cross is a meaningful way to honour her legacy and keep this timeless Irish tradition alive. 🌾 While this isn’t my photo (my first attempt wasn’t the best 😅, but I do have it outside my house as I know St Brigid won't mind x), it’s so worth trying, and there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube to guide you. For the reeds just go to a boggy field, there are loads around here and cut yourself some to have ago with.

Will you be weaving a St. Brigid’s Cross this year? Let me know💚✨ 🕊️

Floristry Tip - Part four - Cutting stems

🌿 Strip any leaves that will be submerged in water 💧. Leaves in water can rot quickly, promoting bacteria 🦠 and fouling the water 🚫. This can reduce the life of your flowers 🌸, so keep those stems clean and fresh! ✨

🌷✨ Tulips are such a unique flower with their iconic shape! But did you know you can give them a whole new look?

🌟 Keep them classic with their petals pointing upwards, or gently "flex" the petals back to reveal the stunning colours of the stamen and inner petals. 🌈💐

It’s super easy and so satisfying! Just take a petal, peel it back gently, and work your way around the flower, turning each petal inside out. The result? A whole new way to enjoy this simple flower’s hidden beauty. 💖

What’s your vibe: traditional tulips or flexed and fabulous? And will you try this next time you bring tulips home? 🛍️🌷✨

🌸✨ Join us next Saturday, 1 Feb, for a Spring Flower Orb Arrangement workshop. ✨🌸

We'll be using a beautiful ceramic bowl to shape a delicate orb with branches, creating a stunning display. 🌿 You can decorate your orb with dried flower heads to capture the magic of spring blossom. 🌺

We'll arrange fresh flowers using a sustainable base—no floral foam. ♻️ You can choose to keep the flowers nestled within the mechanics or let them playfully peek out—it's all about embracing negative space in design (which is trickier than it looks!).

There are just a few spaces left, so don’t miss out 🏃‍♀️💨

What a brilliant day🌸✨ Chilling, chatting, eating, and getting creative—what more could you ask for? This was my first-ever Pause with Petals workshop, and it definitely won’t be my last 💕

We kicked off the day by painting canvases using the dot technique 🎨, followed by crafting beautiful dried flower candle holders 🕯️. After lunch, we got hands-on with real flowers 🌷. Everyone received a large bucket of mixed blooms and created some truly stunning arrangements—one large display and three charming bud vases. 🌿💐

As we sat down to a lovely afternoon tea provided by Karens Bakes 🍰☕, our beautiful floral creations adorned the tables, adding the perfect finishing touch.

These are just some of the photos 📸—if anyone else has any, please send them my way! 💌 Thanks, ladies, for another wonderful day (and, I won’t mention why we were running late 🤣

Joanne you were missed x

Can't wait for the next one 💖My next full day one is 6 April and we will be getting creative with an Easter theme x

Thanks for all your lovely comments on my post yesterday – I really was touched💛.
Today, I’m talking about the simple daffodil and how you can create a beautiful spring arrangement for under £3. 🌼

I used a recycled Douwe Egberts coffee jar (thanks to my lovely friend Janice Houghton who always saves them for me ☕), a satin bow from a Christmas present, some Beech branches I foraged on a nice day, and the cutest mini bows from Amazon 🎀. The daffodils? They’re a total bargain at just £1 a bunch from Morrisons – they take a little time to bloom, but they’re definitely worth the wait. 🌞

✨ Here’s how I did it:
1️⃣ Arranged the beech branches in the jar first
2️⃣ Re-cut the daffodil stems at an angle (Tip: Cut them under running water to wash away the sticky sap)
3️⃣ Staggered the flowers at different heights for a natural look
4️⃣ Added mini bows from Amazon using glue dots (super easy to remove and reuse!)
5️⃣ Finished with a few bows on the front for extra charm 🎀

Want the full step-by-step with all my tips? Including an easy way to gift? Head to my blog for more details. https://www.flowersfrommyattic.com/post/create-this-spring-arrangement-for-under-3

Stepping out of my comfort zone... Gushy post

Social media can be a funny thing. I can stand in front of a room full of people and talk for hours about flowers, painting, or crafting – as long as I know what I am talking about. But when it comes to posting about my wee business online, that feels a bit different.

Sometimes I wonder, am I overloading you all with my tips, workshop updates, and the amazing creations people make. But the truth is, sharing what I do – whether it is flower arranging, painting, or crafting – means so much to me. Seeing people come together, laughing over a cuppa ☕, and forming new friendships in my workshops is the best feeling in the world.

In some ways, I am quite the introvert. I do not socialise much outside of my workshops, yet when I am teaching, I feel completely at home. Maybe it is because I truly love what I do.

And here is the thing – without you, none of this would be possible. Whether you have attended a workshop, bought a bunch of flowers 💐, shared a post, or simply liked something I have put out there 👍 (which, by the way, helps so much with spreading the word), I am forever grateful.

As I approach my five-year milestone, I just wanted to say thank you for being part of this journey. Every little or big act of support means the world to me.

Here is to many more years of creativity, connection, and community 💕🎨🌿
Told you it was gushy x

Floristry Tip - Part three - Cutting stems

🌸 Cut flower stems at a 45-degree angle with sharp, clean scissors ✂️. This maximizes the surface area for water absorption 💧 and prevents the stems from sitting flat at the bottom of the vase 🏺. I call this cutting stems so they stand on their tippy toes! 👣😊

January Musings: Embracing Self-Care 🌿✨
Deep post for me x

I’ve been thinking a lot about January. I wouldn’t say I hate it—that’s a strong word—but it’s definitely not my favorite month. There are personal reasons for that, which make it a bit harder for me. But beyond that, January always feels weighed down by expectations.

Every year, it feels like 1st January comes with this huge pressure: we’re supposed to reinvent ourselves overnight. 🎯🍎🏃‍♀️ Set big goals, eat perfectly, quit bad habits, exercise daily, and somehow bounce out of bed full of energy. But here’s the thing… that’s not my reality. And I’ve come to accept that.

For me, January has become about self-care. 🌸🛋️ If you look at nature, birds and animals don’t rush into action just because the calendar says it’s January. 🐦❄️ They wait for longer days and warmer weather before they spring forward. Maybe we could take a page from their book?

So, if you’re still enjoying leftover Christmas chocolates 🍫, sleeping in on weekends 😴, or choosing a cosy day with TV 📺 over a brisk winter walk, that’s okay. It’s winter! It’s hibernation season. 🧣🕯️

Don’t beat yourself up over unrealistic resolutions. Whatever month it is, self-care and kindness to yourself matter most. 💞

🌸 Floristry Tip Part Two: Remove Plastic Packaging 🌟

✨ Remove any plastic packaging from your flowers straight away 🚫🌼.

🌿 Flowers give off a natural gas called Ethylene 🌬️, which gets trapped in the plastic. This gas attacks your flowers, causing them to bloom quicker and shorten their lifespan 💨🌺.
