The Dunwald Ensemble made a delightful debut at the Portsmouth Menuhin Room, featuring a charismatic blend of woodwind, brass, and piano. Mozart’s Quintet, KV 452, showcased Karen Kingsley’s piano as an equal partner, with the Larghetto’s serene interplay and a joyful Rondo. David Barlow’s Soliloquy for clarinet and piano was brief yet poignant. Beethoven’s quintet followed, blending charm and energy, with moments reminiscent of jazz improvisation. A well-attended lunchtime of exquisite musicianship, the performance was a rare treat, celebrating this unique instrumental mix—with the promise of a flute to join in future concerts. https://musicinportsmouth.co.uk/review-the-dunwald-ensemble-at-the-portsmouth-menuhin-room

Join us for Classics by Candlelight with Southern Pro Musica on Saturday, 22 February at St Peter’s Church, Petersfield.

Cellist Pavlos Carvalho shares his love for Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C, a work deeply rooted in Baroque tradition. Unlike modern concertos, the soloist plays as part of the orchestra, creating a true chamber music experience—spontaneous, electric, and full of life.

With a stellar orchestra, expect an evening of musical "risk-taking" and excitement.

Review: Shirley Turner, Peter Mallinson, and Lynn Arnold at Chichester Cathedral

Kicking off the new year with Mozart, Chichester’s beloved lunchtime concerts delighted once again. Lynn Arnold sparkled on piano in Ah, vous dirai-je, maman, while Shirley Turner and Peter Mallinson brought Shostakovich’s Five Pieces to life with charm and precision. John Alexander’s soft rains, inspired by Sara Teasdale’s poetry, evoked timeless beauty, leading to Vittorio Monti’s Czardas, a dazzling, energetic finale. From reflective to exuberant, this concert showcased the remarkable range of emotions and talent. A perfect reminder of why these concerts are such a treasured tradition. ️ https://musicinportsmouth.co.uk/review-shirley-turner-peter-mallinson-and-lynn-arnold-at-chichester-cathedral
