So I lit a candle & decorated a tree so the storm gave me a walnut wand, a sign of loves forever bond & an owl hoots in the old Lime tree bringing all your love to me.

I bid the Leaves forsake the trees this year,
No green shoots congruent here,
Cold weak winter sunlight stay,
No birds returning, no crocus, daffodil nor Hellebore,
Let the cold advance across this shore
Ice cover every part,
For nowt can thaw this frozen broken heart
Hail the storms raging in darkened skies,
While starlings above us lonely fly
And crows call murder in their roosted trees
While I bound decumbent to my knees,
No rain relentless on the pane
Can wash nor er’ attempt erase the stain,
For you are gone & all is as dust to me,
And I a grudging conscript to this arrant unnatural war,
Now proclaim battle as my certain just decree.

I find you by the water,
You sit beside me on the shore,
I can’t quite see your face but I recognise the nape of your neck
And your toes
So I am sure
the sand is pulled away
By the sea and our feet are side by side
But you slowly ebb away like the turning of the tide

I see you in a coffee shop
Through the window
A smile
I rush in to find you
If we could just sit a short while
But your coffee cup is empty
Your chair still warm
The cushion still softly dented
I recognise your form

I find you in the snow though
I long for you to stay
But you don’t remove the Google’s
You just turn and ski away
I see you in the forest
It’s dark
So your hand is holding mine
Just as you always did
In the faded light
Since you were small
Not because you were scared

There is nothing to hold
