It was lovely and also surreal to see our manor and grounds on the Masked Singer last night. Bandicoot sent a small and enthusiastic film crew last September. We are glad they used our Tudor Barn and lake as these haven’t been used yet by other film crews. They allowed us to sit in when the baking scene was filmed in our barn which was really interesting and a lot of fun. Before you ask we have no idea who is behind the mask.

Merry Christmas from our alpaca nativity shelter. We are very thankful to all the wonderful people who came to visit us this year, we have had visitors from as far away as New Zealand, most states of the USA, Bolivia and many more. However, we have also had many who have come from within the village. Our alpacas love seeing all of you.

An update on our wreath making this Saturday 30th Nov starting at 2pm and finishing at 4pm. We have assembled some materials in our barn but have also been researching suitable foliage to use fresh from our grounds. We have just sent out emails to those who booked places. If you haven’t received one please let me know via pm.

On a hunt for plants that still look amazing in late Nov I found these grasses growing in our swimming pool border. The scientist in me got excited and on closer inspection I discovered there were actually 4 different species of grasses (Latin name is the family Poaceace).

None of the 4 species were native to the UK. The ones that are v impressive at the moment are the genus Miscanthus which come from Asia. The really tall one is called Miscanthus giganteus for obvious reasons.

A closely related species which is half the size and called Miscanthus zebrinus as it has stripy leaves.

There is also a grass called Stipa gigantea or Golden Oat grass. This comes from Spain and North West Africa.

Finally we have a grass growing called Pennisetum alopecuroides or Fountain grass. These originate from South East Asia.

I am half way through my seasons of the year challenge, which is to take a photo of the same view throughout the year. The Annabel Hydrangeas are a major feature which come into full blood July/Aug, I am going to spray the flowers for Christmas wreaths next week. Spring is all about Irises, alliums, peonies and roses.

Our grass has stayed very green that is due to the large amount of rain we have had with some help from our dried alpaca poo:

A potential guest asked what our garden looked like now in late Autumn. So I took photos this afternoon on a grey, cloudy day and decided I am extremely fortunate to live here and that I have an amazing garden team. There is also a lot of beauty in clouds although the colour of our Liquidambar tree was much more intense in the last photo which was taken yesterday in the sun. The same tree is in the second photo.

No two days are ever the same here. Today we are replacing our pool doors and a window. We have been very impressed with Dovetail Joinery - Pershore Ltd.

We are also putting cement into our alpaca shelters. The cement lorry got stuck in one of old fields so we had to help make a very long pipe. Hopefully once the cement has been unloaded the reduction in mass/weight will mean the lorry is able to move.

Our gardens were planted for all year round interest. In October it is all about Asters, Nerines, Kinophofias and crab apples. Our dahlias are still giving impressive flowers and last until the first frost, they take over our raised beds at this time of year.

We have some truly amazing people who work here. Jonno and Konstantyn were smiling despite the torrential rain. We are very fortunate to have them as part of our Bretforton Manor Gardens crew. Our ducks and alpacas were not as happy. It is a fallacy that rain is good weather for ducks, ours spent all day trying to get back into their house. Bless our alpacas, today was a long cry from the warm, dry Peruvian hills they originated from.

What an incredible day yesterday, easily the most people we have ever had through our gates. A huge shout out to the amazing Bretforton Show team there is so much that happens behind the scenes. The organisation behind it is meticulously run by Kate Buckham.

We hope most people enjoyed it. Well done to all the prize winners (including some of our own). We were so busy on the day we didn't take many photos. So please send us some of your best ones (email to [email protected] or post on Facebook).
