Starting out as a small group of friends with a love of disco, things have quickly spiralled, with sold out events showcasing local DJ talent alongside the likes of headliners Harri Pepper (Stamp the Wax), Mylo Harvey (Cirque du Soul) and Horse Meat Disco over the course of just one year, with much more planned for the futur

Kirollus doesn’t really fit the mould – you’d think for a DJ with an affinity for music way before his time would have grown up in a musical household, however this was not the case and through sheer passion and dedication he’s managed to quickly earn the respect of his peers and forefront figures in the global funk and boogie scene.

In 2014 a desire to dig deeper led him to buy a Technics 1200 and seek out vinyl wherever he could find it. This soon led him to discover the funk, soul & jazz treasure trove Uptight records in Hove. While working there for over 6 years he quickly accumulated over 4,000 individually selected records covering a plethora of styles including lovers rock, hip hop, UKG, house and hardcore.

To Kirollus, DJing is about bringing joy, unity and evoking lasting emotions and hopefully euphoria through the magic of music. This passion and a desire to share music during lockdown has led him to create the mix series Forty Minutes of Funk which has quickly grown to become a go-to source for DJs and fans of the music alike.

When Barry Can't Swim first visited us in May it was a highlight we knew we'd want to repeat- and so it will be, but this time we complete the bill with Anish Kumar, the man with whom he made the Summer smash 'Blackpool Boulevard'.

As per last time around, the Don't Walk, Boogie and Sally Can't Swim residents will warm things up nicely before these two heavyweights complete a night that will live long in the memory. An absolutely essential night you cannot miss.

The Showcase returns to The Phoenix and this time we present something a bit different- we'll be starting off on the Phoenix Terrace (you might know it better as the smoking area) with our friends from Don't Walk, Boogie keeping it funky and chilled between 6-10pm. Join us for free for this part of proceedings and arrive early to avoid a roadblock!

Then from 10pm we switch things inside for a whole building takeover- in the main room it's all about the Disco with DWB & Hold It Down, while The Goodie Room & Nu-Tropics blur those lines between Garage, Jungle & Acid House in the Workshop. In the bar we have Room 303 providing the Micro House & Techno, and from 11pm we have Fokus upstairs getting intense with the full spectrum of DnB.

Tickets go live on Wednesday 11th May at 6pm and are sure to sell out quickly!

Edinburgh-born, London-based Barry Can't Swim is quickly making a name for his own unique brand of world-inspired and jazz-inflected electronic music.

He's a man of many talents- multi-instrumentalist (piano, guitar, bass, drums), and a classically trained Musician, Producer and DJ. We can't wait to host him for an extended set, plus our Don't Walk, Boogie and Sally Can't Swim residents.
