Hey all! A Youtube video about making music a full time job got me thinking today. To make music work for me (yes a REAL job, coz it is one ;-) ) you gotta wear a number of hats. My hats include

1. Teaching guitar

2. Wedding singer/guitarist at ceremonies, drinks receptions - www.philsmyth.co.uk

3. Event Band - New Heroes playing weddings, parties, pubs etc

4. Live looper, entertaining people with my acoustic guitar, loop pedal & voice at parties, pubs, holiday camps, restaurants etc

5. Live Streamer. I'm a Twitch partner and get to play for people in my home studio. Here's me playing to 3000 people in my home studio on the Twitch front page

6. Solo rock guitarist. I grew up listening to (in my view) the greats of guitar, Hendrix, Moore, Clapton, Beatles plus 90's music - RHCP, Pearl Jam, STP, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters. Sometimes I get to play solo gigs, with my electric guitar and tracks, I still love to do this and always enjoy it.

A new year is always a challenge, gigs can be less and there's always the thought that this is the year it all stops and it's been a good run. These days you gotta be a musician, content creator, video editor, photoshop expert, photographer, accountant, website creator. The skill set needs to grow every year.

So, to all the musicians out there, respect to you for making it work in what ever way you choose to do it.

Tomorrow I’ll be pitchside at pre-match at Exeter Chiefs playing a set for the 6000 odd people that will be there to watch the game. Finally my first stadium gig! 😂
If you’re there in the crowd - “that’s me on the corner”!

There will be this massive picture of my head on the screen so I’ve made sure to photoshop out the spots but not the grey beard. 🤪

Do say hi and wave at me as I’ll be wearing my in-ear monitors so won’t hear a thing! Woop! 11:45 start SHARP!

Hey all. Been spending time creating jam tracks for my guitar students to jam too and anyone out there who wants to play along.
I've spent a good while now learning the live looping side of Ableton which I use on my Twitch channel and now spending time learning more about the arrangement/production side. Small steps but everyday getting something new out of it and keen to up my skills over the next few months

Pretty close to monetising my Youtube channel now with the amount of watch hrs required so any views/comments/likes you fancy giving it and boosting the algorithm i'b be super grateful

Front Page all day yesterday on . Thank you to the team for selecting our little channel for the promotion and getting 👀 on us.
We had an average of 2-2500 viewers for each of the 4 streams and nearly 10hrs of streaming. Exhausted today but very happy. Back on stream tomorrow afternoon from around 1pm uk time for more!
