Hey all! A Youtube video about making music a full time job got me thinking today. To make music work for me (yes a REAL job, coz it is one ;-) ) you gotta wear a number of hats. My hats include

1. Teaching guitar

2. Wedding singer/guitarist at ceremonies, drinks receptions - www.philsmyth.co.uk

3. Event Band - New Heroes playing weddings, parties, pubs etc

4. Live looper, entertaining people with my acoustic guitar, loop pedal & voice at parties, pubs, holiday camps, restaurants etc

5. Live Streamer. I'm a Twitch partner and get to play for people in my home studio. Here's me playing to 3000 people in my home studio on the Twitch front page

6. Solo rock guitarist. I grew up listening to (in my view) the greats of guitar, Hendrix, Moore, Clapton, Beatles plus 90's music - RHCP, Pearl Jam, STP, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters. Sometimes I get to play solo gigs, with my electric guitar and tracks, I still love to do this and always enjoy it.

A new year is always a challenge, gigs can be less and there's always the thought that this is the year it all stops and it's been a good run. These days you gotta be a musician, content creator, video editor, photoshop expert, photographer, accountant, website creator. The skill set needs to grow every year.

So, to all the musicians out there, respect to you for making it work in what ever way you choose to do it.
