Make your own shadow leaves by soaking hardy structured leaves in water for up to 2 to 3 weeks. Change the water every few days and after about 10 days or so see if the green is lifting by gently rubbing the surface. After drying you can accent the veins in gold/silver, paint or dye the leaves - or enjoy their natural colour. I’ll be talking through this project on Toby Buckland’s BBC Radio show today! designer

It’s a good time to prune your wisteria in August, and I made use of the long whips to make wreath bases ready to decorate for autumn. I used the petals to make a delicious effervescent wisteria petal cordial. I’ll be talking about this project on Toby Buckland’s BBC radio show later this morning

To reflex or not to reflex…….. I’ll be taking about this on Toby Buckland’s show later on BBC Radio Devon and Cornwall. The technique is to gently bend the petals outwards to accentuate the centre bud and give a fuller appearance. Start on the outer row of petals and work in one direction

A blissful morning’s introduction to Ikebanna lead by our incredibly talented and kind tutor, Hitomi Phillips. It was fascinating to learn about the beautiful art of Japanese flower arranging in the lovely setting of Broadclyst Church. People connected by their love of flowers, joyful conversation, a thirst for knowledge and delicious cakes - the perfect way to celebrate natures bounty. Hitomi has generously donated the proceeds of the morning to the Church Flower Fund

A celebration of a life well lived. Funeral tributes making use of locally grown flowers and foliages. We collected Myrtle representing enduring love, rosemary for remembrance, bay for strength and courage along with wheat, scented garden roses, buddleia , feverfew, gladioli, eremurus, sweet Williams, Daphne and delphiniums

A feast of local blooms and herbs for lovely Kate. The bouquet had a wonderful perfume with stocks, Myrtle, sweet peas, nigella, feverfew, limonium, orlaya, campanula, veronica and cornflowers

I recently spent a wonderful evening with the fabulous people of Newton Abbot Flower Club. I demonstrated six different designs using locally grown garden flowers as we chatted and exchanged tips. I later realised that the first picture shows only the back of my arrangement and so have added a close up of what the front leaf detail should be! It works particularly well with leaves from dracaena, aspidistra and phormium. I’ll be describing this technique on Toby Buckland’s show on BBC Radio today. Hoping to be invited back to Newton Abbot Club again very soon, they are such a talented and warm group, a real pleasure to be with
