Can we talk for just a moment about canapés?

What I love most about them ishowlimitless they ate, in terms of flavour, structure and content! The only hard and fast rule (imho) is that you should be able to pick them up using only one hand (leaving the other free to hold your drink) and eat them in no more than a bite or two, at most.

Since they're individual bites, our canapés can be tailored to suit a whole host of tastes and specific dietary needs. Whether you love sweet or savoury (or both!), we can create the perfect selection for your party, with something to suit every guest.

Canapés are the ideal choice of catering for a whole host of events - think champagne receptions, launches and networking events, cocktail hour, pre-dinner speeches, drop-activities or any time when you want your guests to be free-ranging and able to mingle at their leisure.

How long does it take to set up afternoon tea? This is a question I get asked a lot. The answer depends on sooooooo many different things, for example:

How many people are we catering for? Is it a fully seated service or a buffet? What's the access like? Is there any parking? How far from the kitchen is the service area? Is there running water available? Plugs? How much prep space can we have? Are there any fridges? And so on, and so on...

The short answer is that I can set up a graze table for 20 people in 1-2 hours, but for 150 guests having a sit down afternoon tea we'll need a bigger team, and at least 4 hours, or ideally be able to come in and start setting tables the night before!. Obviously the food is the last thing that goes out, and there's a pretty narrow window between being super organised (by this I mean getting everything done ahead of time) and dry sandwiches!

Over 10 years of experience have taught us that every job is different and so our service is bespoke, which means we can tailor it to fit your party plan precisely. We want to get all the little details right, so that you and your guests can simply relax and enjoy the party 🥂

These handmade canapés are just the ticket if you're hosting a drop-in party or drinks reception. They're easy to eat in just a bite or two, whilst chatting and enjoying a glass of wine or even a fabulous cocktail! Freshly baked and completely vegan afternoon tea for 100 guests in a giant tipi tent on midsummer's day, you say?

What better way to spend your wedding day, than in the glorious setting of , followed by sangria and ceilidh dancing!

Not sure which kind soul keeps trying to cancel my google business profile (because I no longer have a tearoom they can visit?) but I really wish they would stop!!! It's very dull, effortful and time consuming going through the appeal process to get it re-instated every time.

So here it is once more for clarity...

Sixteen months ago I closed the tearoom on New Bridge St in Exeter, in order to work less and focus my attention on the rapidly expanding event catering side of the business. This change has allowed me to:

1) Live with my partner.
2) Reduce my regular working week to less than 80 hrs.
3) Take time off to spend with my family and friends.
4) Wash fewer dishes.
5) Establish a much better work/life balance, making time for other things I enjoy doing like singing and visiting other countries.

What this means in real terms for HT customers is that:

1) You can no longer "book a table" at the tearoom.
2) Afternoon tea box deliveries are only available by advance request (email me at [email protected]).
3) You can book us to cater for your wedding reception or private party anywhere in the South West of England!

Pics just in from a photoshoot we did back in January! I've done lots of events with over the last year (do not mention the VIP bar) and can confirm that not only are they blessed with extraordinary creative genius and a terrific hire catalogue, but are also some of the friendliest and most hard working folks I've ever had the good fortune to work alongside. Give them a follow and check out their website www.maeflower.co.uk if you're in need of sustainably sourced decor and styling for your upcoming party or event.

The same also goes for the ever lovely and equally industrious , a Bristol based wonder florist with unlimited imagination and more plants in her home than you could ever believe possible. Follow her for regular pics of bouquets from the Fourfields cutting garden and news of one-off delivery options around Bristol on special days.

I made these scones for a delivery that went out earlier this week. I love it when the perfect rise creates a natural split like the ones in this pic. You can just pull them apart with your hands and voila, two equal halves ready to load up with lashings of clotted cream and jam - no knife necessary!
