This picture most probably won’t make my top 10 most engaging posts, but it really truly signifies the start of spring for me.

The first egg 🥚 from my little brood of chickens. They are infact rubbish layers - silkies, pekins, and French marans. But they lay the most gorgeous sage green eggs.

I am a winter struggler. It doesn’t matter if I ooze positivity and upbeat energy. I feel extremely flat in winter. I don’t do well with TV, and although I love reading, I’d rather be outdoors. The first egg is such a delight for me. It makes me excited to let them out in the morning. It gives me a bit of a spring in my step.

People often ask me what I love doing - and I genuinely love walking the garden as the sun rises, with a cup of tea looking at the plants, collecting the eggs and engaging in the spring morning. I am not a winter lover. It doesn’t matter what I do, we just don’t get on.

I shall poach this egg and have it with my breakfast and delight in the knowledge that it’s coming back around again, that spring I love.

She’s always full of promise.

Oh hello February 🫶🏼

February is the month when the light levels get better (around 14th) to start sowing seeds. I shall start sowing some seeds like poppies, cup and saucer and snaps.

If you’d like to learn more about growing cut flowers I am running the following two workshops. They are such a minefield of knowledge and you’ll walk away with tips, tricks and advice to set you off for a fabulous growing season. Each include a growing pack for you to refer back to. The first date include seeds for you to sow at home and the second being a more practical workshop of sowing half hardy annuals - like cosmos and zinnias 😍

2025 Bouquet Flower Ordering.

This year I shall be releasing monthly ‘themed’ bouquets which will all be different according to what is growing - just so you can see what you are ordering! As we head into the warmer months when there will be more variety, I shall release more themed bouquets.

For February, bouquet of the month is the beautiful Clara. A peachy, creamy pink of a delight which consists of Verona Sunrise peach double tulips, Flash point (my favourite) tulips both from , with a Eucalyptus and Hazel catkin base finished with gorgeous cream and white scented narcissi from my friends at .

Bouquets will be wrapped in tissue and tied with ribbon. All sustainable and without plastic. As the seasons progress the bouquets will include a more diverse range of flowers - think ranunculus, anemones and poppies until April, quickly followed by peonies, roses and foxgloves. You get the idea.

There are two tabs on the website - a local delivery product (within 6 miles of Woodbury - not Exeter) or a nationwide delivery tab that is just £5 extra.

From April there will be the option of collecting small bunches, but during this period now only the larger are available for delivery.

I shall also be selling additional blooms I may have from events which will usually be towards the end of the week.

I have available this week - 4 £30 bouquets (delivered) which are usually £40 and two £20 bunches (collection)

Dates for delivery both local and nationwide are now live on the website. Excited for this year. Valentine’s Day ordering will open on the 1st February, to include Clara and also a Red themed Juliet ❤️

The Clara bouquet is absolutely beautiful. Soft peachy tones with lovely cream narcissi. Perfect for February.

Hey team 🫶🏼

Just showing my face as I emerge from the downtime that is January. I’ve been wearing fancy clothes and having meetings with some very exciting venues for new adventures this year 😍

I am releasing info on flower bouquets and ordering structure for 2025 over the next few days. It’s going to be exciting and different to how I have run things in the past. Think themed bouquets… with fancy names, oh yes. There will be a few bouquets available for delivery towards the end of this week and then from the 1st of February flowers available for both local and nationwide delivery until November 😍

Pre orders will be going up for Valentines Day 💌 and I shall also have some beautiful boxed wire flowers and one off art work to purchase if flowers isn’t your thing. Mumma Jane aka will be making a whole range of items for my website this year. And I’m very excited to grow this collab.

2025 it’s gunna be one hell of a ride and I’m so ready for ya.

Blue Monday. Well, I’ve been looking at inspirational photos from the past and getting excited about sowing and growing for 2025 🥳.

This year there are going to be some changes, and although still in the planning stage I’m very very excited to release and announce them over the next few weeks. Shaking things up over here at WBF HQ and I think you are going to love it 🤸‍♂️

I’m going to be doing more writing this year - something I really love doing but find it difficult to cut down for this platform. So you can find me on Substack - Wood Barn Flowers, I’ve popped the link in my bio. A few years ago I wrote about one of my goals being to regularly write for a publication. If you own one or know someone that does that would like to feature a monthly write up of a flower farmer called Hollywood’s escapades then hollar.

Join us for a dreamy session of Yoga & Spring Flowers at the Eucalyptus Farm on Saturday the 22nd March 2025🌿

The day will be split in to two sessions and shall roughly follow this schedule:
Pick from either
Morning session - 9am - 1pm or
Afternoon session - 2pm - 6pm

9.00am - arrival and walk through eucalyptus trees to Yoga Studio. Intro chat
9.30-10.45 - Yoga - a relaxing, restorative and strengthening session to include breath work, sun salutations, a variety of yoga poses and guided meditation.
10.45 - 11.15 - refreshment break including tea/coffees and homemade cake
11.30- 12.45 Spring Flower Arrangement workshop which will start with a quick talk on how to get the best out of your flowers for arranging in your home. Followed by designing your own spring arrangement to include of course lots of eucalyptus, tulips, scented narcissi and anemones.
1pm Finish

Afternoon session:

🌱 Introduction to growing cut flowers workshops. 🌱

Every year I run a few super friendly and informative sessions on how to grow cut flowers. You do not need acres of land or big gardens. You can thread cut flowers into existing borders and also pots. The possibilities are very broad.

The sessions will leave you full of information, tips and tricks on how to grow cut flowers and far more info than what you find on the back of a seed packet. The feedback on these workshops have always been so positive. COME! You’ll love it.

This year, I am running two different workshops:

Saturday 1st March
10am - 12.30pm
Introduction to growing cut flowers. During this workshop, I shall cover all aspects of growing cut flowers. I’ll demo sowing seeds and pricking out and everyone with take home seeds to sow and an information pack for reference. I shall also bring some seedlings to purchase.

Subscription Flowers

For 2025 I am running a slightly different subscription flowers than what I have been running for the last 10 years. Instead of fortnightly (which became a bit unprofitable with all the driving and lots of admin with people being away) I am offering a monthly subscription - a large bouquet, delivered to your door for £30 a month. There is a minimum 3 month sign up, with the first 3 months being paid upfront and then should you want to continue, a DD.

This starts in April and is really lovely thing - a gift for someone or just for yourself. They’ll be scented flowers, real flowers and obviously flowers grown in Budleigh from my flower field.

With Mothers Day approaching I always have a few people sign up.

There are just FIVE spaces left for the entire year.

New Workshop Dates 💫

I’ve had a lot of enquiries over the festive period to see when I would be running the Introduction to growing cut flowers workshop. This year, I’m going to mix it up a bit ⚡️. With two workshops, the FIRST being a talk and demonstration on growing cut flowers, sowing seeds and information on the types, the hows and when’s and all the practical information you’ll need. We will not do any sowing in this workshop but I will include 3 packets of seeds for you to go home and get started. The SECOND is a new one for me - a half hardy annual seed sowing workshop - think apricot cosmos, zinnias, phlox, unusual sunflowers, apricot fluffy Chinese asters. This workshop will include a practical sowing part, and you’ll go home with seeds ready to germinate in trays. It’s later in the year, at the end of April, with more light levels.

Happy New Year 🥳

Im soaking up the last day off before heading back to all things floral tomorrow.

So many things planned for 2025 with a new feature of creating a new cutting garden at home which I shall documenting with video and uploading on to YouTube for the longer content. There will be lots of how to tutorials for those growing on a smaller scale and in pots too.

My super popular ‘Introduction to Growing Cut Flowers’ workshop will return this year, but at the end of April so that we can sow all the show stoppers like Cosmos, Zinnias and Dahlias.

I’m already dreaming of balmy summer evenings and beautiful colours. I’m excited to get my own cutting garden looking really fabulous 😍

The wedding diary is looking busy but there are still a few Saturday dates available across the busy months of May, July and August. But please get in touch to book in 💕

Ah my gad I love the period between Christmas and new year. I LAVE IT. It suits every single angle of my personality. It’s the time I look forward to most.

💫 You suddenly have time to read that book on the abolition of witches because there’s nothing else to do ✅
💫 Without a doubt you’ve decided that the only way to get that England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 jersey is to take up an obscure sport that’s not saturated with actual elite people - perhaps rope climbing? And you’ve Amazon’d all the kit ✅
💫 Rightmove has taken an absolute beating and you’re now slagging off those houses on for £4.2mill because you don’t like the bathroom. ✅
💫 And you’ve planned Christmas 2025 already, probably even what the menu is going to be on Christmas Eve ✅

I love all of the randomness because that is my life for the other 51 weeks of the year and I finally fit in. I love the TIME. And I love that no one knows what day it is and I’m so enjoying prancing around in my cricket jumper and joggers because for once it’s acceptable 😂

At the moment on the flower farm the tasks are a little boring - but summer flowers are made in winter don’t you know 😂I’m filling IBC’s near the polytunnel and emptying others. I am totally off grid here and things take a bit longer. But sometimes you have to embrace those facts rather than get frustrated by them. I have finished planting up Ethyl and the biennial honesty is flowering, but it’s more of a mock flower before it properly starts in March/April time in the tunnel. There are sweet peas and hardy annuals all busting in their pots, ready to get going for the year. I shall start sorting all my field beds and get the remaining planting in the ground by March. It’s slow and mindful work. I’ve ordered thousands of seeds and I’m excited for the busy year ahead. Lots of wedding enquiries at the moment too. Don’t forget that I sell lots of DIY buckets for those wanting to do their own wedding flowers. Sowing sweet peas. These were sown back in September / October. They are all looking so good! My New Year’s resolution this year has been quite simple. To slow down and engage in the moments. I have no desire to go bigger, grow More, do MORE weddings and stretch myself any thinner. No thank you I shall be embracing the moments. Enjoying the passage of time and choosing perhaps work that lights my fire instead of taking it all on. I shall be enjoying the seasons. Savouring the moments , knowing that I’ve tried really hard to enjoy and be present in the current one before we head in to a new one. This afternoon I have watched my ducks in the snow. They constantly beat their wings, cleaning themselves in the icy soft flakes that are dropping from the sky. They don’t try and do anything out of the ordinary except clean themselves. I love watching them. I shall watch them more this year. My diary is full of lovely things this year, and it’s busy. There are lots of collaborations which make my heart sing and a fairly hefty bigger wedding schedule. So, here’s to my 2025 which I’ve promised myself will be simpler and to engage more in the present.
