SUMMER LOVING

Now that the sun has come out to play (at last), it's time we celebrated summer pastels on the grid. The light of a midsummer's day, the delicacy and freshness of the flowers, the sheer abundance of the foliage 🌿.

As a floral designer at this time of year it's like being gifted the biggest palette of colour and textures imaginable. Thank you to my awesome flower suppliers Flowervision - Bristol Ltd and Ivydene flower farm for the blooms.

For Emma and Hugh's summer wedding at Farncombe House on the Farncombe Estate in the Cotswolds, we styled the family dining style tables with eclectic bud vases for a whimsical garden feel. A dusky blue candle and knotted napkins completed the table-scape.

ADVENTURES IN FLOWERS

With an insatiable curiosity for flowers and a passion to be the best floral designer I can be, it took me zero time to say yes when I had the opportunity to assist top UK florist Paula Rooney on a project on the island of Santorini last autumn. It was a whirlwind 48 hours and we laughed as hard as we worked in the Greek sunshine to create this dream of a floral ceremony installation. Honestly, I can't wait to find out what happens next .....

WEDDING TABLE FLOWERS TIPS

Long banqueting tables are a hugely popular choice for our clients wedding receptions - they effortlessly create a sense of celebration and feasting that is hard to match. But they do present some challenges when it comes to the styling as you have arguably less space to work with compared to a round table. When planning your table-scape, it's a good idea to visualise the whole design, complete with all the serveware, glass, napkins as well as the florals and candles.

If you're looking for drama and style yet need to keep the table surface clear, these mini urns packed with delicate floating flowers are a great design choice.

DAY TO NIGHT TRANSFORMATION

When planning your reception florals with your floral designer, it's worth exploring how the installations will look in both the daytime and into the night. In the Orangery at Sudelely Castle in the Cotswolds, we added candles to the table end flower meadows that acted as up lighters whilst the trailing greenery on the light fittings diffused the light. The Edison bulb lights were echoed underneath the central floral canopy to add to the ambience and the guest banqueting tables were lit up with taper and chunky pillar candles 🕯️ .

MOVEMENT

Probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you think about wedding florals but it's something I care truly madly deeply about.....

By designing with a seasonal blend of locally grown and imported flowers, I have the creative freedom to select flowers that have interesting stem shapes with curves, wonky bits and subtle movement. That's why my signature bridal bouquets are so dreamy and soft, every stem is hand-picked for its shape and ability to gently sway as you carry it. It's the little details that matter peeps.

This garden gathered bouquet featured many of my enduring floral obsessions - orlaya, sweet peas, garden roses, white peonies in an unusual colour palette with toffee roses adding drama to a truly romantic white and blush bridal bouquet.

THE ENGLISH COUNTRY GARDEN

The classic aesthetic of the English country garden is chosen by many of our clients getting married in The Cotswolds. Whether it's a palette of elegant neutrals or something more whimsical in warm and saturated pastels, this look will stand the test of time.

Camilla and Alex's summer wedding took place at the church in Bampton (which was also the setting for many weddings in the hit UK series Downton Abbey) followed by a reception and party at Caswell House in Oxfordshire. Warm pinks, cornflower blues, lilacs and a pop of lemon worked effortlessly with the setting.

WHOOP WHOOP

The first proper sunshine of the year and it's been a magical weekend after a fab week of rest and play with Mr P. Let's keep the sunshine going with a trip back to magical Euridge Manor last summer for Becks and Mat's spectacular wedding reception on the rose lawn outside the Ballroom. Just love the adoption of the French tradition of whirling your napkins when the bride and groom make the entrance - Vive la France 🇫🇷. Pretty please weather gods - can we have a few more days like this 😉🌞

RUFFLES TIME

Peonies - our passion for these ruffled beauties shows no signs of stopping any time soon. Whilst they can be tricky darlings to work with as a floral designer, they are super special in bridal bouquets and wedding florals. For Amy and Elliot's wedding at The Pear Tree, we blended soft whites and pinks to create floral heaven for this gorgeous couple. And how amazing does Amy look in her Suzanne Neville dress 💗💗💗

LIFE UP A LADDER

When I gave up my corporate life and swapped high heels for wellies, I'd never imagine in a million years what would occupy my grey matter in my new flowery life. And one of those things is ladders 🪜 I now own 5 and I've got my eye on number 6 at Wickes at the mo 😁. It's just so important to have the right one for the right gig - especially if you go a lot of overhead floral designs like we do at C&P. Not only do we use ladders for reaching heights, sometimes we actually use them in the designs. For Suzanne and Tony's clear span marquee wedding at Barnsley House, our super long ladders were pressed into service to create the structure for these epic floral canopies over the guest tables.
And this afternoon? - well I have heard that you can get a ladder license online so that's me sorted - hoping for a cycling proficiency/10 metre swimming style certificate 😉.

BRIDAL BOUQUET DESIGNS - THE CASCADE

A perennial favourite, the natural cascade bridal bouquet is full of movement, charm and just a little drama! It's a perfect choice for the fine art bride looking for a statement bouquet that doesn't hide their dress details. For Katharine's wedding last year at Sezincote House in the Cotswolds, I blended garden roses and ruffled peonies with gently tumbling jasmine to create this dreamy cascade and complemented Katharine's lace gown.

COLOUR ME HAPPY

As a floral designer, colour is hugely important to me. It's one of the key ingredients that I draw upon to translate my clients vision and love story into a unique flower recipe for their wedding day. Hunting down the perfect shade, finding complementary blooms, researching new and exciting colour harmonies - this is what makes my creative soul shine. But it also makes me virtually impossible to watch TV with as I am always pausing programmes mid scene to obsess about something that has caught my eye 👁️. My current passion is the awesome combinations of flowers on Married at First Sight Australia - those florists are simply inspirational in the way they put colour together.

My advice to newly engaged couples when it comes to their wedding colour palette is keep their hearts and minds open. Sometimes the addition of a new colour can elevate a neutrals scheme and take it to a whole new level. And think to about the table styling opportunities with candles, napkins and glassware.

PINCH PUNCH

Happy May Day! In olden times the beginning of May represented the start of summer and was traditionally celebrated with garlands, flower crowns and dancing around the maypole on the village green - think Bridgerton-esque girls in white dresses, scrumpy cider and a lot of blushed cheeks! Today is more about workers and their rights which is less Instagrammable but more important for sure. The beautiful days we created takes an amazing team and we are truly blessed with our professional florist team who skilfully translate the crazy creativity in my head into works of art.

Me and the team are notoriously camera shy but I have managed to find a few pics of us in action - Thank you and for the behind the scenes piccies of me, Demelza and Al (aka The Prince).

BRING IT ON

Our 2024 season really kicked off this month and I'm swirling through the heady mix of emotions - anticipation, creative energy, planning focus! There are lists for everything and a review at the kitchen table with the highlighter pen every morning over coffee ☕️ with Mr P . So where are we heading and what should you expect?

Venues - this year is a dreamy blend of familiar favourites and new adventures. We'll be back to gems including Kin House, Foxhill Manor and Elmore Court amongst many others. And we're off for our first visits to Cliveden House, Hedsor House, Sudeley Castle, Hawkstone Hall and Hamswell House to flower up some gorgeous days. And of course - there's plenty of marquee weddings too to keep the C&P team happy as we just love any excuse to get up a ladder and create something frothy and fresh!

FAVOURITE FLOWER?

I get asked this quite often by clients and friends because - well - I do go on about flowers a bit (😉) and as a self-confessed flower-addict it's virtually impossible to answer as on every trip to market or the flower farm, there will be some new delight that steals my heart. But if you pin me down, then I will do a favourite of the season and my must-have flower for winter is this butterfly ranunculus called Ariadne.

Now she's not big and blousy like a garden rose or ruffled peony, nor does she have any scent or interesting leaves. It's the delicate, almost silk-like petals and the wiggly jiggly stems that won me over. Perfect for an elegant neutrals scheme, or paired here with deeper dusky pinks and pops of lipstick, Ariadne deserves a place in your spring wedding flower wish-list. Available from December through to March here in the UK.

This hue is warm and delicious to the eye and she plays beautifully with other soft pastels like lemons, apricots and vanilla.
