STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS

It has been one year since we successfully auditioned to become members of the Magic Circle which we achieved going straight in at Associate Of The Inner Magic Circle with silver star award. (Still coming to terms with that honour!)

We have met some truly amazing people along the way and been privileged to witness some astounding performances from our idols who have since become our friends.

A recent trip to Las Vegas which coincided with Magic Live gave us the chance to catch up with and make new friends.

Starting with the fabulous Mind2mind, James and Marina. Although they perform a similar act to us we have nothing but mutual respect for each other and from our part total admiration. We were in awe when they performed at the Magic Circle last year. If you are ever in Dubai you must see their show ‘Connected’

We found we had so much in common, including the fact that Suzy and Marina slowly rotate on stage when blindfolded, albeit in different directions, Suzy goes clockwise and Marina anticlockwise. The rate is the same at a quarter of a turn per hour😁!

We had lots of fun last night performing at the Close Up Show at the Magic Circle.

Very privileged to work alongside side such huge talent from fellow Magic Circle members and to perform in the Devant Room where King Charles himself once performed.

Thank you to all of our volunteers Rodney, Nadia, Jo (very underrated artist), Brad (Happy Birthday) and Electra, we simply could not do the show without you. And a huge thank you to the rest of the audience for your full support.

We had such a fantastic time at the Magic Circle Convention this weekend and it was an absolute pleasure to meet the wonderful Debbie McGee. She was utterly charming, friendly and funny, and incredibly humble for somebody that has led the most fascinating and incredible life. We could have listened to her stories all night long. Thank you Debbie for sharing your magical tales so candidly, and inspiring us all.

From Muggle to the Magic Circle - our journey continues….

Our wonderful friends at Aerobility, who had provided us with the aircraft for our blindfolded flying stunt, very kindly asked us to perform at their annual fundraising ball again last November. This amazing charity enables the disabled community to access the magic and wonder of flight, so obviously we were delighted to support such a brilliant cause. We’ve performed at this fabulous event twice now, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you Aerobility Charity!

From Muggle to the Magic Circle - our journey continues, and so do the strange coincidences…

The year had flown by and suddenly it was time for Bobby Davro to revisit Fleet and headline the comedy night for FunnyBones again! We were delighted to be asked to entertain the guests during the intervals, and it didn’t escape our attention that it was on this very occasion the previous year that our performing journey had begun. We had been guests that night, and now we were showing our act to the audience and hopefully boggling some minds along the way!

We were very excited at the prospect of boggling Bobby’s mind in particular, and at the end of the show we got the chance to give him a little taste of what we could do! It was so much fun when Adrian got him to think of a time and I guessed it correctly despite being blindfolded. Bobby had such a brilliant reaction and was such a lovely person, it was a pleasure to meet him.

Imagine our surprise then, when two weeks later we were on a train to London chatting away to each other when a man approached us asking if we had a phone charger he could borrow - and we looked up to see Bobby Davro in front of us! We were all as shocked as each other, and couldn’t quite believe what a coincidence it was to bump into each other again in such a random way! In true Bobby fashion we spent the rest of the journey being regaled with his crazy stories and laughing until our sides hurt.

From Muggle to the Magic Circle - our journey continues

With Adrian having taken to the skies blindfolded and successfully landing again in one piece we were feeling very excited, and keen to show people our film. We were delighted when it caught the attention of BBC Radio Berkshire, and happily agreed to appear on their live show one morning with host Sarah Walker.

We definitely wanted to tell her all about our crazy blindfolded flying stunt, but we also had a surprise up our sleeves for her. We sent her a letter in the post the week before the show and made her promise to keep it safe and not to open it until we were all live on air. During the show we asked her to choose a playing card from a deck of cards and Suzy then read her mind and correctly guessed the card she had chosen! Sarah was dumbfounded and her reaction was brilliant…… but then we asked her to open the letter she had been looking after for the last week….. and it blew her mind when she discovered inside the envelope the very card she had just chosen!

From Muggle to the Magic Circle - our journey continues

With talented filmmaker Jake Francis on board, and the magical expertise of Laura London Magic Laura London our dream of recreating the blindfolded flying stunt soon became reality. On one of the hottest days of the year Adrian donned his blindfold, stuck an opaque bag over his head for good measure, and successfully took off, flew and landed an aeroplane!

This incredible feat was scary and amazing in equal measure, and we couldn’t possibly have achieved it without the help of our friends at the wonderful charity Aerobility Charity who bravely supplied us with the aeroplane, and Jack Hodgins SMJ Media Group CIC who assisted with capturing the footage from inside the cockpit.

Of course, we also couldn’t have done it without the help of our three unsuspecting pilots - John Dodd, Peter Roberts and Shona Bowman! To see just what they did, how we selected them and most brilliantly of all, their reaction to this mad stunt, watch the film here….

We had lots of fun last night watching The Mind Mangler at the Apollo Theatre. Highly recommend seeing this show either in London or when it starts its tour of the U.K. later this year.

Adrian was chosen to participate and learn how it should not be done..!

From Muggle to the Magic Circle - our journey continues

Normally, when you meet somebody talented, funny, kind and basically an all-round fabulous human being they do seem to hang around with like minded people. There is the odd exception of course, when they introduce you to a complete dickhead….but thankfully this was not to be the case 😆

Jake introduced us to his girlfriend Laura who was not only funny, kind and fabulous but just happened to be a world class magician Laura London.

Laura is one of the world’s best female sleight of hand artists - a fantastic close-up magician who has performed all over the globe entertaining audiences including celebrities and royalty. She is also one of the most down to earth, thoughtful and funny people we have ever met, so we were absolutely delighted when her and Jake came to watch us perform one night, and afterwards we bonded over whiskey and the hilarious comedy of outrageous performer Phil Nichol 😂 It still makes me snort with laughter when I think about it 😂

So, we had made another best friend in Laura, and we were stunned and honoured that she liked our performance and suggested we ought to audition to join the Magic Circle, of which she was, of course, a member.

Surely we couldn’t do that…..could we….?

From Muggle to the Magic Circle - our journey continues

Our performances at FunnyBones comedy nights enabled us to refine our skills and publicise our act, so we were ready for our next big challenge! Adrian wanted to recreate a stunt that two amazing magicians had performed over 60 years ago - to fly an aeroplane blindfolded - but we needed help getting it off the ground, quite literally 😉

We needed a talented filmmaker and director to capture this incredible feat on video for us, but where would we find one of those?? We might have known that a quick conversation with the wonderful Beverly Edmunds-Jones would provide the answer! She is the kind of lady that makes friends wherever she goes…which includes being stuck on a train. It is amazing how sometimes the universe introduces people and contacts are made, this being no exception.

On a train bound for nowhere Bev struck up a conversation with another lonesome traveller by the name of Jake Francis. What does Jake happen to do? Well, true to form Bev managed to single out an actor, web designer and filmmaker, who just happened to live locally. The idea to film our ridiculous stunt just took one giant leap forward! We got in touch and discovered that Jake was the perfect man for the job, and not only that, he was just about the coolest and nicest person you could ever wish to meet.

We’d made a new best friend, the flying stunt was finally under way, and then Jake surprised us with one of the biggest coincidences of all……

Very proud to announce that Suzy, and by default so do I, feature in this months Mensa magazine.

Suzy is one of very few females who are a member of Mensa and the Magic Circle. If you were ever wondering which one of us is the brains behind our act, well now you know!

I am very proud of her and what she has achieved in life and very privileged to be spending the best years of my life in her company.

I had the pleasure of being mesmerised by the Magical Ruby earlier this week. A rising star in the making, I felt humbled by her card tricks. Yep, I was out magicked by a ten year old…!

From Muggle to the Magic Circle - our journey continues

After a summer of working on our act, lockdown started to lift and we were invited by some friends to a local comedy night where Bobby Davro was performing. Keen for some social interaction and a good laugh we went along and enjoyed a really fun evening. Comedy nights were a regular local event run by FunnyBones, and we were so impressed we wondered if Transcendent could get involved.

We spoke to the wonderful Beverly Edmunds-jones who runs the evenings and she was amazing enough to allow Transcendent their very first public appearance at an upcoming event. Petrified and excited in equal measure we finally had a chance to unleash our act onto an unsuspecting comedy audience.

In that nervous first performance we learned so much, and before we knew it we were refining our routine and gaining new skills. It’s amazing what you can achieve when you collaborate with like-minded people! FunnyBones continued to give us even more opportunities to perform which we absolutely loved, but the best part was making friends with Bev. She is a truly inspiring and wonderful lady who led us into our next amazing connnection…..
