When community comes together, something beautiful happens.

Thank you to the children from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Claughton and those who came to the workshop in April for creating this beautiful mural on display at the village hall, celebrating life in Claughton.

Each handprint has something written about what they love about Claughton…. Overwhelmingly it was the greenery and the trees that they said.

Special thanks to Jo Milner for being the mastermind behind this project.

Claughton Memorial Village Hall - Improvements underway!

Work has now started on refurbishing and improving our Village Hall. Thanks to our volunteers who did a great strip out job on the bar and upstairs, the main contractor got a flying start on 4 March. The new walls for the extended bar are built and the main lintel in place, and the stairs to the upstairs multi-use room should be fitted next week. We have had to take the main hall temporarily out of action but we hope to have that open for use again in the next week or so. We expect to have the new facilities fully available by mid year so look out for more posts as we start a new chapter in the history of the Hall.

Claughton Memorial Village Hall - Improvement Plans!
We have been working hard to act on your feedback from our survey back in March. We have made some improvements to the heating system to help keep things warm, painted the outside of the hall and fitted bike hoops and generally improved a few areas in the hall, so we hope you have started to notice that things are changing.

To encourage people to get to know the hall, we have started a pop-up café every 2nd Sunday in the month, with delicious homemade cakes, toast and teacakes and drinks – come and join us for our special Festive pop-up on the 10th Dec.

Everything we do relies on the efforts of volunteers, so it does take time to make change happen. To allow us to tackle the bigger improvements you said you wanted, we knew we would need external help to fund the work. We have been lucky enough to have been awarded grant funding from both the Lancashire Environmental Fund and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund through Wyre Council, so now we are embarking on some major works. We plan to create a multi-use studio upstairs and to refurbish, extend and equip the bar area so it can be used for community and private events. Preparatory work is already underway with the main build due to start at the beginning of March 2024 with the new facilities being fully ready by July. As most of the work will be behind the scenes, we plan to keep the hall open apart from a few weeks in March.

We’ll tell you more about what is happening over the coming weeks. You can book the hall on https://hallbookingonline.com/claughton/ and follow the Claughton Memorial Village Hall page on https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100094644210221
