As winter approaches there are many festivities to look forward to which feature fireworks. Its important that we enjoy the bonfire night in a fun and risk-free manner.

🎆 around 1,000 people visit A&E with a firework related injury in the four weeks around November 5th alone

⛑️many more use home first aid or visit their GP with injuries sustained as part of the celebrations.

The most common injuries on Bonfire Night are burns, debris in the eye from the bonfire or from fireworks and smoke inhalation as well as sprains and strains from tripping in the dark.

‼️ If someone is burnt and the affected area is larger than the size of the casualty’s hand, you should phone for an ambulance immediately.

‼️ Hold the affected area under cold, running water for at least 20 minutes or until cool.

‼️ Special care should be taken if the burn is on a young child or an elderly person.

‼️ All deep burns of any size will require urgent hospital treatment.

Event Health Care Professionals (Evening & Weekends)

This is a casual post to support our Event Medical Services Team.

We are looking for Paramedics, Nurses and Doctors to join our team and support the development of advanced life-support skills.

The successful candidate will be an experienced practitioner who possesses excellent communication and teamwork skills, and demonstrates leadership qualities.

A qualified health care professionals (registered with either GMC, NMC or HCPC) will be able to provide first aid care, resuscitation and other emergency medical procedures on a consistent basis, as well as administer patient care, monitor patients' vital signs and perform technical work.

Responsibilities:
> Respond to emergency calls and provide emergency medical care to patients.
> Provide patient care and transport ill, injured, or critically ill patients to hospitals for treatment.
> Make appropriate referrals to prevent unnecessary visits to hospital from events
> Interact with patients, families, and hospital staff in a crisis situation.
> Perform first aid procedures on a variety of patients using basic medical equipment.
> Communicate information and status updates to the hospital or dispatcher.
> Manage patient care and transportation in a timely manner.

Additional training, insurances, uniform and equipment provided free to charge.

We’re always glad to support our colleagues and friends at XL Health for such as great service.

Our teams are back out tonight from 9pm 👇🏼

XL Medical, Health and welfare provision to make nights out in Sunderland even more safe!

Having medical staff on hand, close to pubs and clubs, means treatment is available when people need it most.

Every Saturday night across the Sunderland City Centre.

Working with the local authority and partners to keep our communities safe, this is one of many ambitious plans to lead the way in protecting the public and supporting communities.

Our workforce can care for anyone who’s worse for wear, sick or injured and – crucially – prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.

We are backing the Purple Flag initiative, which is an accreditation process similar to the Green Flag award for parks and the Blue Flag for beaches. It leads to Purple Flag status for town & city centres that meet or surpass the standards of excellence in managing the evening and night time economy (ENTE).
