I've made another lovely sample piece for brides to try on when they come and see me.
It's a delicate comb, with silver-tone leaves, glass bugles and faceted beads in soft pinks, and some beautifully sparkling clear Swarovski rhinestones set in copper...a gorgeous combination of materials, colours and textures ❤️

A close up of the lace on Steph's headband.
It was actually a little bit of the lace from Steph's wedding dress that I dyed and changed the colour of, from a soft ivory to a lilac blue and a dark, navy blue.
I stitched it by hand to the main body of the headband and added a couple of crystals as well, just to catch the light as Steph moved.
I really loved making this piece, it was so special ❤️

Happy Burns night!
Steph's headband ❤️
Handblocked sinamay base, covered in tartan and lace. Embellished with crystal.
I love making pieces like: blocking, stitching, dyeing, making sure everything is as perfect as I can make it.

Nicola's comb ♥️
Handmade silk organza flowers with vintage gold lace leaves.
My recent flower-making experiments that I've been posting were for this piece. I wanted to make sure that I got the size of the flowers just right. And Nicola loved the idea of a flower that was very romantic in feel, its petals loose and organic. So part of my experimentation was also about finding the right technique for shaping each of the petals.
The silk organza was a perfect match for the colour of Nicola's silk velvet dress.
I'm the luckiest person in the world to be able to make pieces like these

Kerry ♥️
I made Kerry's hairpins from some of the lace from her mum's wedding dress.
Kerry liked the idea of the lace having a rosy pink tint to it, so after I refreshed it (the lace had yellowed with age), I carefully tinted it.
I then added some of the beautiful gold pearls and AB crystals that Kerry had picked out when she had visited me in my studio, and some gold and ivory bugle beads that added a little contrast in texture.
You can see Kerry's hairpins in more detail in my previous post.
Thank you to Ashley Coombes Photography for this lovely image.

Kerry's hairpins.
Made from some of the lace from Kerry's mum's wedding dress ♥️
The dress was a little yellowed with age, so I refreshed the lace first and restored it to its original colour. Kerry liked the idea of changing the colour of the lace to give it a slightly warm, rosy tint (which looked beautiful against her hair).
She picked out some beautiful pale champagne Swarovski crystals, AB crystals, and gold pearls and I set to work.
I added some gold and ivory bugle beads as I was making up the hairpins, just to add another shape and texture to the mix.

Beautiful berry shades and vintage vibes ♥️
This design slowly evolved from an idea I had a while back. I'd wanted to make something quite dark and luscious with a flash of copper. So here it is: hand dyed lace, copper leaves, and crystals and pearls in beautiful berry shades and tones.

Congratulations to beautiful Gioia Mia bride Jess, who married her sweetheart on Saturday ❤️
Jess picked a dainty but very sparkly headpiece to wear made with vintage rhinestones and white Swarovski pearls. She tried on a few different styles, but always kept coming back to this one.
And because it's made with vintage rhinestones, there will only ever be one

I love that there's a crystal colour (or combination of colours) to match every colour scheme.
How perfectly does Crystal AB match Jen's husband's tartan? ❤️

I've got a shelf in my studio that's dedicated to some beautiful, deep colours: burgundy, aubergine, plum...
They look gorgeous paired with lighter colours, like pale blush, lilac, lavender, copper or silver.
I love that brides are adventurous enough now to wear something a little more unusual for theirbig day ♥️

Handmade organza flower ♥️
There's something lovely about making flowers. The process is slow and meditative: stiffening the fabric and waiting for it to dry; drawing out the petals, then cutting them all out; shaping each of the petals individually; making the centre of the flower; then arranging each of the petals, starting from the middle and working outwards.
Different fabrics create different effects, depending on how opaque or sheer they are, how you mix the fabrics and how you shape the individual petals too.
I love that.

Beautiful Gioia Mia bride Lindsey ❤️
I loved working with Lindsey, designing and making her comb. The whole process seemed so effortless, and it was a pleasure to chat away together while we looked at different configurations for lace, pearls and stones.
