Here’s a lovely way to start…or end, a ceremony!

Do a Mexican hug at the start of your ceremony!

It's like a Mexican wave but with hugging. The nearlyweds have a hug, then they hug somebody next to them and round it goes.

It's a kinda soft launch for the ceremony. Always a good laugh. Especially when you make everyone do a silly face. And it gives you and your almost-spouse 5 minutes to just enjoy each other and hold hands and hug before s**t gets serious*

"An overgrown lump and a frizzy-haired menace crossed paths as you learned to build Lego robots with your age still in single digits.

"You got chatting on the mean streets of Gourock"

"Then came the ‘depresso espresso’ era - which was largely solved by getting a cat."

"You explore castles and you play games. Which is to say you destroy Max at Risk. And at Pairs."

I also talked about love and why they are the best thing to ever happen to each other. There were lots of emotional bits among the japes. As there should be.

After every wedding I send the couple a copy of the script of what I said and what actually happened (as opposed to what was planned, sometimes there’s added unexpected joy!) and this is the lovely note I got back from Gemma and Josh 🥰

‘We are still definitely on cloud nine as it was the most amazing day and we loved every minute.

Thank you so much for writing our ceremony, it was honestly exactly how we would have wanted it. Everyone was saying how brilliant you were and how much they loved the ceremony.

I was going to ask you for a copy of the story you wrote about us anyway, so thank you so much for sending us that!

The couple wished for a relaxed, outdoor vibe and initially planned to marry at Doune the Rabbit Hole in Stirlingshire in 2023 but when the festival was cancelled, they decided on a more homegrown approach in an unusual location.
