It feels completely unnatural to me to be posting a photo of myself on our social media page, but more and more couples are planning their day from afar and I think it is important for our brides and grooms to know they are in good hands.
For those who don’t know me yet, my name is Hannah and I run the beautiful Carrick Castle Estate wedding venue along with my wonderful husband Darius. We moved here nearly 8 years ago from South Africa with our children to be closer to family. The venue was brand new and it wasn’t actually purpose built to host weddings and events, the barn was designed for heavy machinery! But the moment we saw it, I said to the owner it was perfect for weddings and the location made it absolutely ideal. The photo opportunities with the hills, trees and loch as the backdrop along with the luxury accommodation meant that we could welcome couples from all over the world to Scotland’s West Coast.
And we haven’t looked back! With some minor changes to the accommodation and barn such as adding in event toilets, insulating the walls and purchasing rustic wooden trestle tables, the Lodge at Carrick Castle Estate began hosting DIY weddings.
Many people ask if the estate and lodge belong to Darius and I, and whilst the answer is sadly no…we are proud to say we run it as if it is. We have been lucky enough to be here from the beginning putting our own special touch on each and every aspect of the accommodation and barn, and we have seen it grow since we opened our doors in 2017. So to answer the question why I got into weddings? It just happened and it was meant to be, and I absolutely love it!
