Introducing studio member 🎇 Liz Reid 🌃
“Liz Reid was brought up in Paisley before moving to Dundee to study illustration and printmaking at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. After an extensive career in local government, including a spell as Chair of Creative Exchange, the forum for public sector creatives in Scotland, Liz now lives in the east end of Glasgow and has worked as a full-time artist from her studio base in Many Studios since March 2023. “I love my wee space here. Working at Many Studios feels very calm and relaxed – sometimes I forget to go home!”
Liz enjoys plein air urban sketching and reportage, with a particular interest in architectural subjects, and she helps to lead the Glasgow Urban Sketchers group, drawing live on location around the city.
This October, Liz will be taking up residence for two weeks in the Art Space at Cass Art’s flagship store on Queen Street for her first solo show INK, an exhibition of works on paper – drawings, prints and urban sketches of Glasgow. Also on display will be 100 small works drawn on beer mats, a form of sketch diary created as part of the ‘100 Days Project Scotland’.
On 13th October, as a closing event for the exhibition Liz will be teaming up with author LG Thomson to discuss LG’s latest book, Bitter Fruit, a narrative memoir in which Liz is one of the main characters. The pair met at art school in 1981 and in this discussion they will reflect on their time there, what life was like for aspiring artists in 1980s Scotland, and the paths taken since.”
