Many Studios facilitates a dynamic, engaging, creative environment for its members and the public alike through our venue and studios provision. Many Studios is a creative organisation founded in 2010 as a not-for-profit business focused on providing affordable work and events space to artists, designers, craftspersons, and start-up creative businesses. We currently have forty unique spaces and ov

er sixty members at our Ross Street studios, including two shopfronts facing onto the historic Barras Market; as well as a gallery space currently home to the independent, artist-run, Market Gallery. We also have a bright, airy, accessible Events Space with large street-facing windows available for hire. Opposite the studios is our recent project the ‘Pocket Park’, a collaborative public city garden project developed with architects New Practice. Composed of a series of raised block planters, it offers a pocket of green within an otherwise urban environment.

Happy Birthday to Rip It Up Vintage✨💜💛🧡💚
It’s been seven years this week since Kirsty moved into the shop unit on Kent Street and opened her vintage treasure trove, and it’s such a pleasure to see how the shop has blossomed over the years!

Always a pleasure to have hirers come back more than once, especially when they decide to run a series of events with us. We work to the needs of each group that spends time in our space, and do what we can to support all types of activity and users of the building:

“Staff at Many Studios are always VERY supportive and accommodating, we have used this venue many times and it will remain in our top rated venues in Glasgow!” - Lynsey, Social Enterprise Academy

Things are booking up for the rest of this season, although there are still some dates available. If you have an idea or plan for a series of events or workshops in the new year, get in touch.

Notes that we offer discounts for non-profits community groups, and for those who are actively organising against racism, fascism and oppression.

Brèagha Blooms works only with UK grown flowers, collaborating with couples who are looking for alternative, and sustainable floral service in both traditional and more contemporary venues. Introducing studio member 🎇 Liz Reid 🌃

“Liz Reid was brought up in Paisley before moving to Dundee to study illustration and printmaking at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. After an extensive career in local government, including a spell as Chair of Creative Exchange, the forum for public sector creatives in Scotland, Liz now lives in the east end of Glasgow and has worked as a full-time artist from her studio base in Many Studios since March 2023. “I love my wee space here. Working at Many Studios feels very calm and relaxed – sometimes I forget to go home!”

Liz enjoys plein air urban sketching and reportage, with a particular interest in architectural subjects, and she helps to lead the Glasgow Urban Sketchers group, drawing live on location around the city.

This October, Liz will be taking up residence for two weeks in the Art Space at Cass Art’s flagship store on Queen Street for her first solo show INK, an exhibition of works on paper – drawings, prints and urban sketches of Glasgow. Also on display will be 100 small works drawn on beer mats, a form of sketch diary created as part of the ‘100 Days Project Scotland’.

On 13th October, as a closing event for the exhibition Liz will be teaming up with author LG Thomson to discuss LG’s latest book, Bitter Fruit, a narrative memoir in which Liz is one of the main characters. The pair met at art school in 1981 and in this discussion they will reflect on their time there, what life was like for aspiring artists in 1980s Scotland, and the paths taken since.”

Our events space has seen many an exhibition install, from pop-up showcases to the extended programming of . It allows for any number of set-ups with the large ground floor windows offering a clear view from the street.

“It offers a flexible space for our development workshops and plenty of options for curation. Communications are efficient and friendly and any issues are resolved quickly. Accessibility is important to us so the ground level entry, good public transport links and nearness to a cheap car park are significant pluses. We hope to be back next year.” - Workshops & Group Exhibition testimonial

Introducing Studio Member 🧡 artist, designer and researcher Hanna Paniutsich .xyz

“One of the most recent projects I have been developing in the studio was Vypramieńvannie/Radioactivity publication. You can check it out on some shelves of . Usually I spent time in the studio sitting at the desk and doing stuff on my computer — boring. I hope next year I will assemble and do more physical stuff as now I am preparing a series of bio-techy workshops. I am always up for collaboration especially with (web)design, coding, moving image and installation.

This book examines emotional, physical and ecological infrastructures coming from the view of the Alienation Zone around Charnobyl. The Alienation zone is an exclusion zone - a broader term defining special territories, where certain bodies become ejected or displaced. For instance my family was displaced from the zone after the catastrophe. This publication traces the history of radioactivity and radiation from Borjom mineral water to radioactive fungi inside the Charnobyl reactor; from nuclear proliferation to the chemical contamination that spreads around the globe, possibly to the cosmos.

HANNA PANIUTSICH | XYANA is a multimedia artist, designer and researcher. Their work is a collage of personal stories and histories, video footage, physical devices and biomatter. This is usually assembled into installations using different software and hardware. Their current research interests are nuclear technologies, chemical pollution and the effects of radioactivity on living systems. They are fascinated by exclusion zones, fungi, technological infrastructures and interfaces.”

Studio member spotlight!

We are continuing to champion our valued and valuable studio members with Mandy Maria . Mandy is one of our longest standing studio holders, having spent many years in the building as part of the design and print duo Submarine.

Since shifting into her own studio at the beginning of the year, Mandy’s space has been alive with colour, experimentation and gorgeous, vivid interpretations of the rugged Scottish landscape, in her original soft pastel works. It’s a joy to encounter the otherworldly worlds which emerge in her studio.

Mandy creates original artworks and print editions, as well as working to commission. Find out more via her website mandymaria.com

Re-Posted from

To add to that, there is also no world as we know it without art. Not only do we need the government to understand artists’ role in arts & culture (fyi, their role is the whole thing) but the importance of arts and culture in ALL of our everyday lives. With years of standstill funding and cuts in many areas, the presumption is obviously that artists, collectives, organisations, etc, will keep on keeping on and creating against all odds, but people are tired emotionally and physically. Not just from these cuts but from the many interconnected policies and cuts that effect so much of the creative sector including ongoing genocide, a hostile environment that scraps the provision of free travel for people seeking asylum, police brutality, and fascism as a whole. Please write to your MSP and demand better.

Studio Member Spotlight!

Zoë Zo, Zoë Tumika & Zoë Guthrie is an artist from and living in Glasgow, Scotland, and they have been a studio member at Many since 2023.

“They experience making art and supporting the creative practices of others as a way to

breathe,
reconfigure,
play,
be (a)live,
shift through space
exist in multiple temporalities.

This is a metabolising research, process and making based creative practice informed by the politics of Black Radicalism. They make predominantly with clay, formalising ceramics using both handbuilding techniques and the pottery wheel. They also make using pen (lettering and drawing) and moving image.

Currently Zoë is working in response to the provocation of the BLACK CLYDE, an embodied interrogation of the relations between blackness and the River Clyde, utilising these relations as portals to multiple spatiotemporal registers.”

Find out more about Zoë’s practice and their work on their gorgeous website zoetumika.com ✨

06/08/2024

Part of the way Many Studios sustains itself as a creative organisation - as an independent, long term and reliable creative workspace provider - is through the hiring of our Events Space venue. Events which we host in our venue play an important part of the creative and community-focused ecosystem in the building, as well as allowing us to keep rents for studios as low as possible for as long as possible.

It is always important that those who hire the Events Space feel they are also benefiting from their time at Many Studios:

“The booking process was very easy and the building manager quickly responded to any queries I had. Everything went well with my event and I felt supported by the Duty Manager who was there on the day. The space itself was excellent with good facilities. I would definitely hire a space in Many Studios again!” - Artist Workshop event, March 2024

If you are looking for a venue for your workshop, meeting, creative or community event, get in touch to find out more about availability and pricing. We offer discounts to non-profits, creative / community groups so are always happy to discuss how we can support your event.
