BALBIRNIE WEDDING FAIR

I'll be at Balbirnie this Sunday (17th September) along with a whole host of brilliant supplier pals such as Victoria Photography, A Bonnie Wee Cake, Style a Chair- Event Decor, Lee Richardson Wedding Films and Lifetime Photography, to name but a few.

This event is completely free of charge and doors open at 12pm. We would all love to meet you and answer all the questions you might have!

When should you send your invitations?

Timing is key when it comes to sending your wedding invitations and I recommend sending them about 4-6 months before your big day. This gives your guests plenty of time to mark their calendars, make travel arrangements, RSVP and join the celebrations. But it's a delicate balance - sending them too early might mean some guests forget or misplace them. So aim for that sweet spot of 5 months that gives enough notice without risking it slipping their minds.

I JUST WANT SOMETHING SIMPLE...

This is something I hear a lot when couples first reach out with an enquiry.
But one person's vision of simple can be completely different to the next person's. Then when we start to go through the deals, in addition to it being simple, they also want a guest information card, details of the menu and an RSVP card.

I think this ticks every box - timeless and understated. Its been a popular design recently and I've made it in so many different colour combinations - what colour would you choose?

It's just... *chefs kiss*. It can completely transform an invitation, turning the simplest design into a statement piece. Luxurious and timeless. It's a once-in-a-lifetime event - make them special!

QR CODES

Love them or hate them, we're just not going to get away from them, so we should probably just embrace it. There's a big 'but' here though - while they're useful and easy for most people to use, they're not exactly the most 'aesthetic' looking things, are they?

Some invitation designs will look OK with a QR code in clear view, but for most, a non-subtle QR code can really ruin the vibe. This is why I prefer to see them on the back of a double-sided invitation, or on an additional information card inside a pocket. What's great is they don't have to be black to still work, so I can change the colour to in blend in that wee bit better.

Do you have tableplan dread? Let's face it, for some couples, it can be a proper headache. Do you sit people who know each other together or do you mix your guests up? Has your brother fallen out with your cousin? Do you have an ex-couple in attendance who cannot bear the sight of each other?

Start your mock tableplan spreadsheet draft as soon as the invitations go out, then tweak it as your RSVPs start to come back. This will save a last-minute panic and will help make sure you have plenty of time to overcome any tableplan problem-solving and negotiations. I will always make your tableplan last to allow for any unforeseen changes, minimising the chances of it being wrong on the day.

PLACECARDS - Do you really need them? Here are some reasons why...

- They will add to the aesthetic of your table and can be made to match the rest of your stationery and complement your décor
- Guests will be able to find their seats promptly, minimising any chaos and confusion, especially at larger weddings
- Your venue or caterers will appreciate being able to serve your wedding breakfast efficiently and identify any dietary requirements
- Each guest can see their name beautifully displayed and many take them home as a memento of your day

AILSA & ALI ⛰️

This Saturday sees the wedding of Ailsa & Ali at Backhouse Rossie Estate - Weddings and I loved working on a brief that was a bit different from the norm.

Ali proposed while they were up in the hills of Glencoe, so after their complimentary design consultation, they chose blue/grey tonal mountain artwork on a concertina invitation and half-arch save-the-date. Their on-the-day signage was kept "on brand" too with the same details and finishing touches for the perfect consistency throughout. Completely bespoke and unique to them!

2025 BRIDES & GROOMS

I have now opened my diary for couples to secure the production of their 2025 wedding stationery. Here's a few things you need to know:

❌ I don't need to know how many invitations you'll be ordering, what colour you're having, what your menu will be or what your invitations will say.

✔️ I do need to know when you want to send your invitations by, that is it - nothing else!

📅 On average, I work 5-6 months ahead of your wedding and my busiest months are November-April, which is when I'm making invitation orders for spring and summer couples. These months book up the quickest and are generally fully booked at least 6 months in advance.

💰 It's £50.00 per production slot and you can secure a maximum of 3 production slots depending on what you would like for your wedding: save-the-dates, day invitations and matching on-the-day stationery. £50.00 is deducted from each invoice as you go through the process and you can finalise your on-the-day stationery about a month before your wedding.

💌 I cover ALL aspects of wedding stationery - invitations, save-the-dates, welcome signs, tableplans, placecards, menus, table numbers, favour tags, small signage... you name and I'll make it all to match for consistency throughout.

D for DECKLED EDGE

I took delivery of some super luxe deckled edge cotton paper samples a few weeks and I'm in love with the simplicity and colour options - how gorgeous are these earthy tones, and the silver sage? 🤍 Would look amazing with gold foil!

I was so impressed with how this test print with Balbirnie House Hotel illustration turned out, so expect to see more of this on your feed!

B for BOOKFOLD

You've maybe heard of the pocketfold, but what is a bookfold? It's much the same thing, but a bookfold opens horizontally unlike a pocketfold which opens vertically. The pocket can hold your RSVP and all the finer details your guests need to know... menu choices, accommodation suggestions, a cashless bar or an adult-only celebration - whatever information is relevant to your day and your venue, or helpful to your guests.

A for ARCHES

Today marks the start of a social media challenge I have set for myself, posting something different every day for the rest of February and working my way through the alphabet. So to kick things off for the letter A, let's start with one of the biggest stationery trends right now - arch shaped wedding stationery.

With the option of half arch or full arch, you can see this trend in both wedding invitations and on-the-day stationery. I was asked by Jane & Gabriel to make sage green acrylic table numbers and sage green menus for their wedding Balbirnie House Hotel in November.
