Our second evening performance will feature pianist Filip Michalak alongside the Elmore Quartet. This concert includes works by Geyer and Brahms, and will feature a performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 12 in A major K. 414, joined by fellow musicians, Dylan Latham, Izzy Howard, Toby Cook, Oliver Clark and Toby Hughes.

Better late than never! A huge thank you to all who attended our 2023 Festival in August. It was a truly memorable few days over which some incredible artists joined us from around the U.K.
We experienced some of our largest audiences to date and received tremendously positive feedback from the concertgoers!
Next year’s dates are 7th - 10th August, stay tuned for updates and we hope to see you there!

Time to meet our artists!

Jed Hughes is an international organist who has performed at some of the most prestigious venues across the U.K. and Germany.

In August 2016, Jed won the Intermediate Class at the Northern Ireland International Organ Competition and more recently was joint winner of the Wadden Sea International Organ Competition (Junior Section). In 2018 he also won a first prize at the 'Jugend Musiziert Competition' in Lubeck, Germany.

In September 2017, Jed joined The University of Music and Theatre "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig Germany to study organ with Prof. Martin Schmeding. Jed now studies at Universität der Künste Berlin, UdK (Berlin University of the Arts) with Prof. Henry Fairs.

Jed will be performing on Saturday 7th at 11:00 am.

Time to meet our artists!

The Freeman String Quartet formed in 2017 at the Royal Northen College of Music.
During their first year the quartet won the RNCM’s Nossek chamber music competition with their performance of Mendelssohn’s String Quartet Op. 12, and in their third year won the RNCM’s Hirsch prize for their performance of Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 132.

The Freeman Quartet have performed at many venues across the U.K. and have given concerts for the Manchester Chamber Music Society and the Lake District International Music Festival.

In September 2020, the Freeman Quartet were appointed as the RNCM’s Studio Quartet, and were also winners of the Tunnell Trust Awards. In May of this year, the Quartet were awarded second place at the CAVATINA Intercollegiate Chamber Music Competition in Wigmore Hall.

The Freeman Quartet will be performing on Thursday 5th and Saturday 7th August 7:30 pm. For programme details and to buy tickets visit the ECMF website.

Time to meet our artists!

Toby Hughes is one of the U.K.‘s leading double bass soloists.

In 2009 he was invited to study at the combined universities of Lausanne, Fribourg and Sion with Professor Božo Paradžik. In the autumn of 2011, he moved to Berlin, where he studied with Matthew McDonald, principal bassist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2013, Toby won Chandos Symphony Orchestra's ‘Young Musician of the Year’, and in 2014 won the string section of the Royal Over-Seas League Competition (the first double bassist ever to do so).
He won the Bromsgrove International Competition in 2016, and the Tunbridge Wells International Young Concert Artists Competition in 2018.

Toby has been a City Music Foundation artist since 2018, and his debut CD released was in May this year on the Champs Hill Record label.

Time to meet our artists!

Jane Downer plays principal oboe with the Oxford Bach Soloists, Australian Romantic and Classical Orchestra, and Instruments of Time & Truth. She has performed with the Oslo Barokkorkester, Concerto Köln, Academy of Ancient Music, English Baroque Soloists as well as the Corelli Orchestra, Canberra Bach Ensemble, and Pinchgut Opera. She has appeared at the New England Bach Festival, Brunswick Beethoven Festival, Canberra International Music Festival.

Jane will be performing on Friday 6th August 7:30 pm.
