Did you know every part of a nasturtium (na-stir-tchum) is edible?
Their name comes from the Latin for nose twister—a nod to their peppery punch!
The vibrant flowers offer a subtle sweetness, while the leaves, petals, and even the seeds bring a bold, spicy kick to salads, garnishes, and garden-inspired dishes. I'm going to have a dabble at turning the buds into 'poor man's capers' by pickling them- they're coming to France next week so I hope they'll have earnt their flight ticket and taste delicious.

Step into the green embrace of Barnsdale’s beautiful gardens for a full day of creative nourishment.

🌀 Morning Session – Willow Weaving with Martin Keeley from
We’ll begin the day with local willow artist Martin Keeley, who will guide you through the process of creating your own circular willow wreath and butterfly. Designed to echo the natural symmetry of mandalas, this tactile session invites calm focus and hands-on creativity.

🧺 Delicious Lunch Provided
Enjoy a seasonal buffet lunch, plus refreshments throughout the day—prepared by retreat chef and creative curator Cathy Elms, to keep you fuelled and inspired.

🌀 Afternoon Session – Mandala Making in Nature
After lunch, join Cathy to forage beautiful blooms and natural materials from the gardens. Together we’ll craft mandalas inspired by traditional Buddhist patterns—celebrating harmony, pattern, and presence through nature’s textures and colours.

Sunshine on a plate! Loved this Greek-inspired marinated chicken and tzatziki dinner – a new summer favourite! Juicy chicken thighs soaked in a simple but flavour-packed mix of oregano, mint, thyme, garlic and a little paprika… humble ingredients, totally elevated.
Add a dollop of cooling tzatziki and you’ve got a dish that tastes like a Mediterranean holiday.

Join retreat chef and creative curator Cathy Elms Bespoke Catering and Retreats , and local willow sculptor, Martin Keeley from for a day of hands-on creativity in the heart of nature at Barnsdale Gardens

We’ll forage beautiful blooms and natural materials from the lush green spaces of Barnsdale, then craft them into stunning mandalas inspired by traditional Buddhist patterns—rich in symmetry, symbolism, and seasonal beauty.
All refreshments and a delicious, organic lunch using Barndale's allotment produce are included. PLUS full access to wander and admire the gardens.

We’ll continue the theme of circular designs through a guided willow weaving session, where you'll create your own handcrafted wreath to take home—a lasting reminder of your creative connection to the nature and a keepsake for all seasons to hang in your space.

A big thank you to everyone who joined my Willow Weaving Workshop today 🌿✨

What a joy to have Martin from guiding us through the art of weaving — not one, but three beautiful creations to take home, plus a generous bundle of willow whips to keep the creativity flowing in the future!

With- made by moi- welcome snacks, a relaxed buffet lunch, and my homemade carrot cake to finish. It was a gorgeous day of making, chatting and enjoying the outdoors at in Grantham.
