Lancrigg is a beautiful Lake District hotel set in 30 acres of mature gardens and woodlands. The stunning hotel is situated in 'Wordsworth Country', 1 mile from Grasmere village in the tiny hamlet of Easedale. The hotel has a relaxed, informal feel and visitors are made to feel welcome and at home from the moment they arrive. There are ten spacious bedrooms to choose from, many with views of the g
ardens and fells beyond. All are en-suite and offer a comfortable and restful place to stay. The boutique rooms are all individually furnished and named to reflect the history of the house. We have a number of family rooms, children will love the adventure playground and woodland trails. Dogs are also very welcome at Lancrigg and many of our guest rooms are dog friendly. A recent addition is the Poet's Bar which features a slate topped bar and a table set into a beautiful bay window which provides spectacular views of the surrounding gardens and Grasmere fells. The Poet's Tipi Bar and our beautiful gardens are the place to be in the Spring and Summer months, sit back and enjoy a drink and a bite to eat while soaking up the sun and the view! You can take a well-earned rest on the terrace and enjoy light refreshments served from the Poet's Bar, or relax in the beautiful restaurant and enjoy delicious homecooked food accompanied with a spectacular view of the Grasmere fells. We received a very exciting email yesterday. Sarah Ogilvie contacted us to let us know that Lancrigg stars in a chapter of her latest book, ‘The Dictionary People: the unsung heroes who created the Oxford English Dictionary.’ 📖 ✍️
Sarah told us,
‘One of the chapters is devoted to Sir John Richardson who owned your house in the nineteenth century. He and his daughter Beatrice spent hours reading books in your sitting room and writing out quotations from those books on small 'slips' of 4 x 6 inch paper, and sending them to Oxford for inclusion in the Oxford English Dictionary. Your house played a role in the creation of this iconic book. It is wonderful to see how you are refurbishing the house and gardens, and keeping its legacy alive.’
How amazing is that? Parts of the Oxford English Dictionary written right here in our sitting room!

‘On April 27th this year my husband and I tied the knot and had our wedding weekend at The Lancrigg! It’s taken us so long to write this because every time we come to do so I start to cry at all the happiness, love and memories we have. From the word go it was just such a lovely experience from booking and choosing this wonderful venue to meetings with Katrina and then finally the special day.
From start to finish Simon, Alison, Katrina and all of the team were absolutely fantastic and really made you feel like anything was possible with our special day and it was…. This amazing team made everything happen, nothing was to big from making a new table the day before our wedding to ordering in specific beverages and helping with flower arranging spending hours and hours helping and just being a true family and team.
When we booked the venue Simon had newly renovated the barn by himself and had big plans for the grounds of The Lancrigg. We were skeptical about how many plans he had and whether it would be done within the 6 months we had to plan our big day!!!! Well we had no reason to be as everything and more was finished and ready. We had our own WhatsApp group with regular updates with the team.
They don’t have onsite catering for your big day however Karen Rhodes who they work very closely with were absolutely sensational we were the first wedding of the season and the first wedding at The Lancrigg for the caterers so you’d of thought maybe one little hiccup would occur but not one single one did!!!! Crème de la Créme both the venue and the caterer.
We were able to take over the whole place and make it unbelievable spectacular. The comments such as “how have you found this venue” “it’s absolutely stunning” “the views are spectacular” don’t do it justice from our guests.
So if you’re looking for a stunning venue with amazing people and with a team who are truly passionate, dedicated and committed to making your day yours then look no further!

‘Why does Michael look so happy?’ you may wonder? 🤔
Well aside from the fact that he’s drinking beer 🍺 in the sunshine ☀️ with fabulous fell views, he took advantage of our non-resident parking deal and enjoyed an 11km circular hike 🥾🥾then redeemed his parking fee in our Poet’s Bar. In Michael’s words ‘Great place to start and finish our hike, and nice to have a drink at the end.’
Non-residents can pay £6 to use our car park and redeem the fee in our Poet’s Bar, perfect if you’re planning a day on the fells.

We’re so lucky being based where we are. With walks 🥾🥾 galore on the doorstep, lots of our guests park up their car when they arrive and don’t use it again until it’s time to go home. 😊
