Theatres Trust At Risk Register!

We also registered the Thameside Theatre with the Theatre Trust.

After hearing our case they accepted the Thameside onto their At Risk Register for the 3rd year running earlier this year.

Another example of the work our campaign is constantly doing behind the scenes to Save Your Thameside.

Below is more info on how we are working with the Theatre Trust from our post back in April.

######

For the THIRD year running The Thameside Theatre has been add to the

Theatres Trust ‘At Risk Register’

We have been working closely with the Theatres Trust for nearly three years now.

With many meetings, training sessions and workshops we have received invaluable advice and support for our campaign to Save YOUR Thameside.

They are following our campaign closely and are staying in contact with Thurrock Council on this matter.

The Theatres Trust is the national advice and advocacy body for the UK’s theatres supporting all forms of theatres.

They protect theatres and champion the future of live performance by advising and supporting our nation’s theatres.

The Theatres Trust is a national advisory public body for theatres, who were set up by the Government through an Act of Parliament in 1976 and work to promote the better protection of theatres for the benefit of the nation.

This is just another way we are fighting to Save Your Thameside for future generations of Thurrock

We thank the Theatres Trust for their all important continued support of our campaign and for bring our battle to the national stage

Do you remember that evening in September 2021 when the people of Thurrock came together to let their voices be heard.

All ages and all walks of life bought together with one simply aim to Save Your Thameside. To stop Thurrock Council closing and selling off the Thameside Complex.

We met at the Council offices and marched to the Thameside, banners held high, singing and chanting, it was a sight to behold, a sight to be proud of.

Peaceful, powerful, but far from quiet!

We came together, people power! The council wanted to close the Thameside before January 2022

AND ITS STILL OPEN NOW!!

You did this, we did this together

However the fight continues…….

Please like and share to show your support.

Let’s remember some of the amazing support we have received for our campaign to

Take a listen to this message from Thomas Aldridge, who knows the importance of the Thameside to the local community and how it helped him on his journey to a successful career in the arts.

Every child in Thurrock should be allowed to experience theatre in our arts & cultural hub at the heart of our community and that’s exactly what the Thameside offers.

Don’t forget back in April 2023, we registered the Thameside Complex as an Asset of Community Value!

Which it absolutely is!

* * Press Release ~ Thameside Complex *
Asset of Community Value gained by
Thurrock International Celebration
of Culture – TICC

Back in February this year TICC applied to register the Thameside Complex Grays, as an Asset of Community Value.

On the 14th April we were informed in writing that our nomination was successful which is fantastic news and another step in the right direction for our campaign to Save YOUR Thameside for the future generations of Thurrock.

This does not mean that the Thameside Complex has been saved nor does it mean the Council has decided to sell it. Our campaign to Save YOUR Thameside will need to continue.

The Asset of Community Value acts as the first stage in identifying and nominating buildings or other assets such as land that have a main use or purpose of furthering the social wellbeing or social interests of the local community and could do so into the future.

Once listed as Assets of Community Value with the local authority, the local community will be informed if they are listed for sale within the five-year listing period. The community can then enact the Community Right to Bid, which gives them a moratorium period of six months to determine if they can raise the finance to purchase the asset.

Some residents of Thurrock may have thought this is something that Thurrock Council has applied to register; however the nomination is from TICC on behalf of the community. Nominations are subject to a rigorous process before the asset nomination is accepted by the council.

With the Thameside Complex being our Arts & Culture Hub at the heart of our community a well-used and much-loved asset we feel it would have been impossible for them to refuse our nomination.

24/09/2024

Never forget how far we have come!

Do you remember back in April 2022, when they didn’t even want the front doors of the Thameside Complex to be open! Long after Covid restrictions were over.

Well we did it after applying a lot of pressure, chasing up many officers and Directors at the council and your constant support.

We need your contined support. And over the next six month and may need to call on you again to support a peaceful protest or write to your councillor.

We must Save Your Thameside, our arts and culture hub at the heart of our community for future generations of Thurrock.

Let’s celebrate how far we have come!

Over 3 years ago on the 21st July 2021, and just two weeks after the council had added the Thameside Complex to their disposal list stating it was ‘surplus to requirements’ and ‘unfit for purpose’.

The people of Thurrock came together and we held our first protest and submitted a petition to the full council meeting with over 4,200 names saying NO TO THE CLOSURE!

A massive achievement in such a short time with a huge support from the residents of Thurrock who were outraged at the councils plans to close their Theatre, Museum, Library, the arts and culture hub at the heart of our community!

The council wanted to close the Thameside by January 22, they even started redundancy negations with the staff!

BUT with your amazingly passionate powerful support for the campaign

THE THAMESIDE IS STILL OPEN!

BUT the fight to Save YOUR Thameside continues

Over the next few weeks we will be revisiting how far our campaign has come, the milestones of our campaign and how we will be moving forward.

We have been fighting hard for over 3 years trying to stop the council closing and selling YOUR Thameside.

Celebrating your voices the power of the people who have felt so strongly about the council closing YOUR Thameside!

Please ask friends and family to support our campaign by following our page Save Your Thameside to stay up-to date with the next steps

Stay strong and together we will Save YOUR Thameside for future generations of Thurrock !

More to follow…… so much more!

As we celebrate the 3rd Year of our campaign to ‘Save Your Thameside’.

I thought I would go back to basics and remember the outcome we wanted back in the summer of 2021 and that we are still all working towards

We have come a long way but we still need everyone’s continued support to keep our campaign going and the Thameside Complex alive.

We maybe calling on you all for your support again over the next couple of months as we approach another crucial stage in our campaign to

Please share share share, thank you
*********************

OUTCOME: What the ‘Save Your Thameside Campaign’ wants from the Council is not to close and sell the Thameside Complex, but to keep it open with all the services in situ for the use of the residents of Thurrock and every part of our community

If it is deemed at some point in the future by the Council to build a new Arts & Cultural Hub we would of course be happy with this.

As long as ….

All the services i.e., Theatre, Museum, Library and the multitude of groups, societies and performers who use this complex remain in situ until a suitable replacement has been provided.

That the new Arts and Culture Hub must be subject to a full and proper public consultation

It must have at least equal to or better than facilities and be in a central easily accessible location for them all to transfer directly to. Without a break in the entertainment and other services that are accommodated in the building. For their continued delivery to the Thurrock Community as was clearly firmly promised by Thurrock Council in 2017.
