Great Blakenham Village Hall & Recreation Ground

As promised here is the next update to keep you all informed. We can now confirm the names and positions of the Executive Committee:
Mike Grimwood - Chair
Emma Ford - Vice Chair
Emma Fairs - Secretary
Kerrie Vipond - Treasurer
Stacey Runciman - Event Lead
Charelle Emmerson - Event Support

Additionally we are supported by a team of Trustees, Member Representatives and Volunteers, names to follow shortly. In respect of volunteers the Board are delighted that Doris Lockwood, who has supported the village hall for over 50 years, along with her husband Derek, sadly lost, has agreed to continue as a volunteer. Doris, please accept my personal thanks.
In the spirit of the original Deeds drawn up over 80 years ago, where the land and following village hall was gifted to the inhabitants of Gt Blakenham we have allocated the Trustee positions to the residents, home owners and those residing in the village.
At this time we have two Member Representatives, one from the parochial church and a position allocated to the adjacent cycle speedway club.
As Stacey has advised in her earlier post we are looking into establishing a new contact phone number and ask you to use the details she has provided until this is set up.
I can however confirm I have an email address I can now share if you need to contact me about issues other than bookings. It is [email protected]
We are currently working through some challenges but we have arranged our next Committee of the Board of Trustees on the evening of the 28th September 2023, where everyone is welcome to come and hear the latest position from the Trustees and to ask any questions.
My final thanks is to the Parish Council for their amazing support, especially during this time of transition and look forward to forging stronger links and working together for the benefit of the village.

Villagers, my name is Mike Grimwood and as advised on this site a few days ago I am the new Chair of the Board of Trustees for the village hall and recreational ground. I cannot apologise enough that the first message to share is a massive apology for the lack of information since then. The reason is there are many transitional issues to rectify before the new Committee can move forward. What I can share is each and everyone of the Trustees, Volunteers and Member Representatives are committed to making this venue the best resource it can be for Great Blakenham and surrounding areas. I want to be honest, open and transparent with you all in advising we have many issues to resolve before we get there and would appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through them in the near future. As the Chair I promise to share with you the situation on as regular as basis as possible when we have news to share, hopefully in a few days I can share how the Trustees Board is set up and the names of our new team

Don’t forget to bring your own snacks (no nuts due to potential allergies) to the FAMILY DISCO tonight from 5pm to 10pm. Fun, competitions, prizes for the youngsters with dancing for young and old later in the evening. Bar open but can adults please keep kiddies away from the serving area - thank you.

GREAT NEWS!! We’ve spoken to the person who runs the family disco and he’s happy to still set up inside the hall so 5-10 pm come and join us for fun, games, prizes and dancing at this free event. We’re not letting the weather totally beat us.

It’s with a very heavy heart the Committee have to cancel the Community Fun Dqy tomorrow. The British weather being as predictable as ever has decided to throw up a storm and severe warning has been issued.
As you can imagine, after months of planning, this is not what we want to do however the safety and well-being of our village and community must always take priority!

Great Blakenham Cycle Speedway are hosting a challenge match this Tuesday evening. We have the pleasure of being visited by the touring Aussies🇦🇺 Daniel Pudney and Robert Fleming. They will captain a side each, made up of the best riders suffolk have to offer and the winner has bragging rights for the rest of the tour 😜 we are looking to kick off around 7.45pm. Would love to see a few familiar face down the Mill Lane circuit 👍

Ice Cream Van

Craft and local stalls, bouncy castles, Attain & Sustain Gym will have competitions, hula hoops and skipping ropes, didi trucks and cars and lots more fun things for the family.

Don't forget we also have a free disco from 5pm - 10pm inside the hall. We'd love to see you Great Blakenham so SAVE THE DATE
