INNOVATION SHOWCASE TALK
What is authenticity? Is it important for people to look the way they look offline in digital spaces? Where is the line between cultural appropriation and appreciation? Favour Borokini is a PhD researcher at the University of Nottingham researching afrofeminist ethics concerns in the design and use of avatars. Her research explores how and why people use avatars and how better avatars can be designed for digital spaces.

INNOVATION SHOWCASE TALKS
More local talks, people taking days off work to volunteer and businesses joining the Innovation Showcase in Gravesend - it's humbling. The Compass Ale House - Gravesend's First Micro Pub have a gem of an afternoon in store, particularly for beer/ale lovers. Pender’s Chemist will likely host two talks: one on the NHS Pharmacy First Service and another on innovations in pharmacy packaging. We’ll also have additional wellbeing talks, including one by a toxicologist on conventional vs. herbal medicines and another on Stonework for Inner Healing.

The aim of these mini-projects is to create impact and interest in Responsible AI (RAI) concerns of bias in AI models. These mini-projects will use AI tools such as low-resource AI models with small datasets and will be supported by the project team or industry partners where needed. The mini-projects will showcase the challenges of bias in AI and how RAI techniques can be used to address them.

More details to follow... This year we're taking part in The Innovation Showcase 2024, in Gravesend organised by Fourth Portal - 20th Nov https://lnkd.in/en876HQF

Our open workshop is:
"Fair AI Futures? work…play…environment…wellbeing…community…creativity…economy!"

Have your say on AI and what the future looks like for you and your community.

On November the 20th Dr Alan Chamberlain (University of Nottingham) and Prof Paul Coulton (Lancaster University) will be hosting a ‘public’ open workshop to enable people to have their say about the ways in which they think that AI will have an impact upon their/your lives in the near and distant future.

Have you ever wanted to have your say about the ways that AI might have an impact upon you. You may have something that you want to discuss, maybe you want to know more about AI or just have an interest in the area. This is an opportunity for you to take part in a range of activities that will help us understand more about the ways that that people think about AI in the future, and enable other people know more about the issues, challenges and opportunities that people envisage when we think about AI.

💬 Come along and have your say, speak to:
Favour Borokini about Afro-Futures

Victor N. & Dr Ayse Kucukyilmaz about Robots, Play and Performance

Hear about the way that we took AI and Robots on the road with the BBC...in a caravan!!!

Come and tell Dr. Glenn McGarry what you really think about AI, do you feel included in the discussion? What do you want to see happen? Do a vox pop about the future!

Tell us if you think that AI will be good for the planet.

Experiment with the fantastic Shadowplay https://lnkd.in/euvdgg68 “an amazing experience where you can interact with the AI image generator in a really intuitive and fun way” Joseph Lindley

Why venues are in so much trouble just read this article...
"The Competitions and Markets Authority (CMA), whose role is to promote competitive markets and protect people from unfair trading practices, confirmed it is “urgently reviewing recent developments in the ticketing market”.

Ticketmaster says artists and promoters set the pricing policy. But the division is not as clear as it seems.

Developing methods of engagement that address important issues without descending into acrimony is vital for all societies. Installing the oil rig and crab steel sculptures by artist Alice Helps in the Fourth Portal sets the stage for our upcoming event, "Drilling For Oil | An Immersive Performance." The science linking our energy use to climate change is undeniable, but the solutions to these challenges are open to debate. Join us on Saturday, 31 August 2024, from 3pm in Gravesend, Kent.
