This weekend, I had the wonderful experience of presiding over my big sister's renewal of marriage vows with her husband, marking their 50 years of marriage at the Bestwood Lodge Hotel. It was a total surprise to all the family, which made it even more joyous.

Renewing of vows is a meaningful event, where a married couple reaffirm their commitment and love for each other.
This is a more intimate ceremony reflecting their journey as a couple.

On this occasion, I used an Oath stone for the pledging of their vows, which I had rejigged from their original wedding.
We also completed a regifting of ring ceremony and signed their vows they had just pledged.

The oath stone was engraved with their initials and date of ceremony. Which they will keep as a keepsake/gift off me as their celebrant.
They also recieved their signed vows in a frame.

Congratulations Mal and Del, love you xx

Funeral Services - What to expect
After a few enquiries, I would like to clarify what a family would expect from me.

1. Unless you contact me directly, I will typically be passed your details from your funeral director. I will make first contact with you within 24 hours.

2. A family meeting will then be arranged for me to learn and address any questions or concerns you might have about the ceremony.

3. Together we will plan an appropriate order of service for your loved one, this includes assistance with choosing special readings, poems, music, visual tributes, hymns or prayers.

4. We will then have a detailed discussion about your loved one, including detailing their life history their likes and dislikes their hobbies and any special memories from which a tribute will be documented as part of the service.

5. Within 48 hours of the family meeting, I will craft a personalised ceremony and fitting tribute for your loved one. I will email you the first draft, allowing you to fact check and amend as required. Followed by a full written copy thereafter.

6. I'm always available by phone, email or text message if you need to speak to me.

7. Additional tokens of support can be given prior to service as a gift to the family from me. This includes twin hearts to be shared with the passed loved one and yourself or specific healing crystals which can be used to aid inner strength during grief.

8. The experience of a confident, empathetic delivery of service for your loved one, providing comfort, reflection and memories - a celebration of their life.❤️

9. Price is £180 included in your funeral directors costs.
Scattering or internment of ashes are available free of charge as part of the funeral service I provide.

Additional Services
Memorial ceremony £180
Separate internment or scattering of ashes £50

After having the honour of officiating a couple of funerals now. I find having the families trust in you is the proudest moment of all. Supporting them in their darkest days is heart rendering but my proudest achievement.
I have found during these times, the gift of a supportive token maybe helpful, this includes specific crystals and pairs of hearts which are always gratefully recieved by the loved ones. Next few weeks I will be exploring emotional tokens for funerals, weddings and naming ceremonies.

Last of my ritual ceremonies that I offer:
The sand ceremony
This ceremony involves two separate single pots of sand (of different colours) being poured into a larger pot by the bride and groom. This symbolises a union between two parties - either a couple or two families. This ritual can be used in either a wedding or naming ceremony.
The completed container will be kept as a keepsake gifted by the celebrant.

Today's ritual is The Quaich (Celtic Loving Cup)

The Quaich - a two handled loving cup is an ancient Scottish tradition that seals the bond of two people and marks the blending of two families.
It symbolises the love and trust implied by the bond as the new couple share their first drink of their marriage together.
Two families provide a drink that they identify with (usually whiskey but any choice of drink can be used).
As it is shared in the Quaich, it symbolises the blended family becoming a union.

Today I had the absolute pleasure of attending my great nephews christening.

As a gift, I gave him a memory box.

A memory box can be used as a ritual in a naming ceremony where the key family members and support parents place a small gift which depicts a memory into the box. It could be a newspaper, photo, a feather a pinecone, a seashell anything.

Or it can be a simple special gift to a very loved baby who I absolutely adore, along with his wonderful brothers, who are just as lovely on the inside as they are out.

Love you guys

This week's ritual is Handfasting

Handfasting is an ancient medieval custom, on which 2 people came together at the start of their marriage to declare of their own free will, that they intend to be together not only for a lifetime but as an eternal bond

While facing each other, the couple will join hands, while braid or ribbon is tied around their hands and wrists, eventually producing a knot as they pull away. Hence the saying "tying the knot"

As part of this ritual, the couple can decide on braid or ribbon and select a colour of preference

If the couple have young children- they can also be involved with the ritual and help with the tying of the knot.

The knotted ribbon/ braid can be kept as a keepsake for the day.

Unity Candle

For this week we will be exploring the use of a Unity Candle in ceremonies

This ceremony involves the wedding couple using individual candles to light simultaneously the unity candle.
This is a symbolic sign of togetherness and the merging of both families.

Alternatively individual candles can be lit by the Unity Candle (usually in naming ceremonies) symbolising that those present as a main role guest will always surround the child with a circle of love

Oathing Stone (Setting the oath in stone)

The oathing stone is an old celtic tradition, where the couple place their hands upon a stone to pledge their vows.

During the declaration of vows the couple hold the oathing stone together in their hands. It is believed that holding the stone during the vows will in turn set them in stone.

As part of the marriage and renewal ceremonies, I will provide as a gift, an engraved stone with initials and date for the happy couple as a keepsake for their special day.

Any queries about this tradition or interest in any of the services I provide. Please contact me on messenger or through my website: ajdcelebrancy.co.uk

Welcome to Angela Jane, your independent civil celebrant for Halesowen and the wider surrounding area.

I trained to become a civil celebrant with the Academy of Professional Celebrants.

I work around Halesowen, Dudley and the wider surrounding area, but am available to attend any location required.
