Created in the early 20th century by James Braid, five times Open champion and foremost Architect of his day, the 18 hole course at Ogden is as natural as the finest seaside links you could name and is one of the best in West Yorkshire. Wildlife is in abundance – Deer, Foxes, Badgers and many species of birds choose here as their home. The layout has remained true to its original design with the o

nly major alterations being made by Dr Alistair McKenzie in 1912. Dr McKenzie went on to design some of the greatest courses in the world including the Augusta National, home of the US Masters in partnership with the legendary Bobby Jones. Ogden’s design credentials are therefore second to none. Over recent years, the links have been extensively improved. Most of the tees have been extended and re-laid, abandoned bunkers from the early days have been re-introduced and paths and bridges developed to meet the standards expected by today’s golfer. Today, the greens are widely regarded as being amongst the best in Yorkshire. Ogden provides a great challenge for even the best shot maker. Eleven of the holes feature water hazards, often nestling in the bottom of steep gullies which can gather your ball as naturally and easily as any seaside bunker. Each hole at Ogden is quite different from the last making it a course which will stand out in your memory long after you have enjoyed its unique delights. The first 12 holes represent a steady climb up the valley with many of the fairways crisscrossing two streams

Holes 13 through 16 then sit on a plateau which afford spectacular views across theLooking back up the 15th earlier holes and down the beautiful Hebble Valley. There are no water hazards up here and the 2 par fives at 13 and 15 (see right) offer real opportunities to improve your score. After the 16th there is nowhere to go but down and the par 3 17th, aptly named ‘Bagott’s Leap’, is Ogden’s famous signature hole.Looking down at the 17th green

Club selection is of paramount importance here and, depending on the wind conditions, you can take anything from a 3-wood to a pitching wedge! The final hole shares a fairway with the first so there is plenty of room for your drive. With the clubhouse in view all the way there is no more welcoming sight as you finish your round. Ogden is a truly unique experience in the world of golf and whether you conquer it or not, there is no doubt that you will remember it forever.

This week, the Halifax Golf Club Junior Section indulged in an exciting evening of simulated indoor golf at the Dye House Golf Club in Brighouse. The event was organized and facilitated by HGC Professional, Nick Krzywicki, whose dedication to the junior members of the club is commendable.

The event provided the juniors with a unique opportunity to experience some of the world's most famous golf courses and games through simulation. The boys had a wonderful time as they navigated various challenges and honed their skills in a fun and engaging environment. This innovative approach to learning and playing golf allowed them to experience the wonderful game from a new perspective.

Halifax Golf Club extends its heartfelt gratitude to Nick and his assistant junior Coach, Vince Hudson, for their hard work and commitment to the juniors. Nick’s efforts in organizing this entertaining and educational evening are greatly appreciated by both the young players and their families and Halifax Golf Club.

The dedication from Nick and Vince Hudson to nurturing young talent at the club is evident, and such events are a testament to his passion for the sport and its future generations.
