Pressing and finishing ❤️
Plain hems….not always as straight forward as they may seem! Sometimes gowns have internal structures that need replacing when altering, making more work unpicking, aligning and resewing.
This gorgeous gown needed shortening a lot, and the inner stiffener replacing. Here we’re adding that back in and then pressing the finished hem ( the seams lining up beautifully 😍) see separate post!

Well that’s the last dress sewn until I return to work in 2024! Saved the most complex till last of course🤣
This amazing gown has had quite some work done! Shes been on the table for a full week, with all that lace and beading to come off and go back on, not to mention a horsehair hem, she’s been time consuming to say the least!
She’s been taken in on the bodice, through the waist and made more shapely into the fishtail,
She’s been shortened, that’s 5 layers of tulle, a lining and the top layer with the horsehair stiffener (not real horsehair!)
Bardot straps have been added and secured into place instead of being detachable, plus some elastic adding to help keep in place,
She’s been boned all the way round the bodice for extra support, because even though it had the corset look that original boning wouldn’t have held up a fried 🍳
And last but by no means least she’s had the original dress fastening of hook and eyes removed, and replaced with a much nicer and tidier invisible zip!
And relax……!!!

I have so enjoyed looking after the gorgeous Marta in the run up to her beautiful Spanish wedding. I knew the day itself would be a blast, her bubbly personality said that right from the first fitting, which is why when she sent me this video I was so thrilled to see her having so much fun on her wedding day!
