Well it’s a balmy 7C out there this morning but still feels like we have some way to go before Spring looks round the corner.
In the meantime if you would like to order some ‘Winter Warmers’ pies, ready meals, puddings and cakes from Local Food for Local Folk, I’m taking orders up to 6pm this Saturday for delivery Friday am 24th January 2025.

It’s only a few weeks away so if you would like some additions to family holiday catering or some more traditional Xmas fare my Winter and Xmas menu is attached.

With the sunshine encouraging local fruit and veg to flourish I find myself trying to create a menu that includes as much of these ingredients as possible. Whether you buy locally from Harleston Country Market on a Wednesday morning, the great fruit and veg stall in the square on a Wednesday and Saturday or in my case where possible from my Allotment it’s a great time of year to buy (or pick) locally grown produce.
Below is a photo of some of the orders for Local Food for Local Folk delivered this morning. We deliver once a fortnight on a Friday morning and customers can place their orders up to 6pm on the Saturday before.
As well as the main menu we offer 2 x ‘specials’. This week it was Chicken Fricassee and Beef Stroganoff. Next delivery will be Friday 12th July with orders by 6pm Saturday 6th July.
Why not give us a try.

During lockdown, like a lot of other local shops and producers, I took online orders and delivered to local people on a weekly basis.
These days I mostly supply the Wednesday morning weekly Harleston Country Market. They sell a great range of homemade baking products, together with locally grown fruit and veg and handmade craft.
But recently I’ve been asked to supply my own range/seasonal menu again to local residents.
So below is my latest Spring menu.
If you would like to order anything, follow the instructions at the bottom of the menu or ask for more details here. Delivery is weekly, free in Harleston and Redenall - minimum order £10.00 and payment by BACS or COD. (I am currently investigating the best card readers for this area/network etc and will update here with more news.)

Some of this week’s orders for local customers of Local Food for Local Folk. If you would like to order for delivery next Thursday morning, please let me know latest 6pm Sunday. I have attached the new Spring menu and unfortunately because of constantly rising cost of ingredients I’m afraid I’ve had to increase my prices as well. This week for customers I’m making Vegetarian Shepherd’s Pies, Spicy Seasonal Veg Curry, Family Steak Pies, Bramley Apple Pies and Chocolate Mousse. If you would like to order anything from the Winter Warmers Menu below for delivery on Thursday morning, please let me know by latest Sunday 6pm.
22/01/2022
This week for customers I’m making Beef Mince Chilli, Seasonal Veg Curry, Roasted Mediterranean Vegetables Quiche, Family size Steak, Minced Beef & Onion and Chicken and Bacon pies, Bakewell Tarts, Lemon Meringue pies and Lemon Drizzle cakes. If you would like to order anything from the Winter Warmers menu below for delivery this coming Thursday morning, please let me know latest Sunday 6pm.
Please note because of ongoing price increases of local ingredients (particularly meat) I am having to raise the price of the Steak pies to £6.00 not £5.75. Had a look in Goodies the other day and they were charging £7.99 for something which looked fairly similar. They sell their pies frozen uncooked and their meat is top quality, but that’s still quite a hefty price difference. Shop and buy local for the best quality bargains I say. Carol Bowen

The Background to Local Food for Local Folk page
When I first came to Norfolk eight years ago, I had spent a long time living in Dorset and I was part of the Farmers Market movement which started in the South West. I realised things were very different here. Then I began to notice the niumber and diversity of geat local food and drink producers in the Waveny Valley. This is the story of how we started to try and bring them all together under one roof.
Supermarkets are very convenient in terms of range of foods, availability and opening hours. But do we really know the provenance of ingredients in our favourite foods? Is the meat we’re eating really British or just re-packaged and labelled on our shores? And then there’s the farming practices in other countries that are not up to our high standards. Do we really want unlimited additives, enhancers, chemicals and stabilisers used in everyday foodstuffs we are feeding our families? Not to mention unnecessary packaging and food miles ........
There is a solution - you can shop with tried and tested local food and drink producers with whom you can talk and buy from direct. Did you realise how many artisan producers are actually operating in our area?
We brought some of the best together under one roof at the Local Food and Drink Producers’ Market in Alburgh Village Hall last November.
This was such an unqualified success, with both the producers and buying public alike, that we have decided to hold four seasonal markets this year.
Same venue Alburgh Village Hall IP20 0BZ:
Easter: Saturday 11th April 9am - 1pm
Summer: Saturday 11th July 9am - 1pm
Autumn: Saturday 12th September 9am - 1pm
Christmas Market: Saturday 14th November
Come and see, taste and buy from or local food and drink producers.
