The Leverburgh Village Hall Regeneration Project has been awarded £474,071 in funding to deliver a major upgrade to one of South Harris’s most important large community spaces.
The project will breathe new life into the much-loved village hall, ensuring it continues to serve as a welcoming hub for residents and visitors alike for generations to come.
The regeneration plans include
replacing the existing roof and increase the insulation,
External wall installation,
A new heating system,
New windows and doors,
Solar panels and battery storage,
Kitchen extension
New flooring in the main hall,
The building will have an enhanced internal layout to make the hall more energy efficient, comfortable, and versatile. These improvements will reduce running costs, improve accessibility, and create a more sustainable building that meets the needs of our modern island community.
The Leverburgh Village Hall Committee would like to thank the Harris forum, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (CNES) and Tighean Innse Gall (TIG), who have worked together to develop and secure funding for the project.
“We are absolutely delighted to receive this funding,” said Kenny Macleod, Chair of the Leverburgh Village Hall Committee. “The hall has always been at the heart of life in Leverburgh, hosting everything from ceilidhs and concerts to community meetings and celebrations. These upgrades will make it warmer, greener, and more welcoming for everyone. We would especially like to thank Eva Kreileder, Harris Forum, for her help and support in developing the project.”
Work is scheduled to begin at the start of 2026, with completion expected later that year. Once finished, the upgraded hall will offer a modern, energy-efficient space suitable for a wide range of community events and activities.
