Aww, well done for the tiny Dancer being placed fifth in her first competition. Cuteness overload!

I created Do Tutu in 2014.
To be honest, I didn’t intend to start a business; I think it found and created me! It also changed my life.
I had made dance costumes since 1987 for my children and a few others in various local dance schools. I even had a go at a full troupe of baby ballet tutus; that was a ‘Never again’ lesson learned! I was always a self-taught seamstress, but had designed and created wedding and prom dresses previously, for my family and friends so I wasn’t fazed by complexity. But then lost my sewing motivation for a while.
In early 2014 I personally, had a really bad year and then lost my dad. I was in desperate need of some R&R and a bit of me time. A series of events fell into place at just the right time. My boss gave me back a week leave, and Aunty Pat gave me a cash gift. I booked onto the Tutus That Dance workshop, initially as a week away in a hotel with strangers, just sewing and learning new skills. I thought it might be a bit like ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’ but hopefully without the option to get voted out.
