60 second lesson 15. Cutting angles. After your fighting stance, guard, footwork have been acquired and you have the ability to perform all the basics attacks without being prompted. The next stage is learning where and when to deliver them. Done from a position of stability and safety. This is called cutting angles, but what’s meant by this term? It means to chose and move to the position that leaves you opens to the least amount of possible attacks. Like chess you have a strong defensive line and position yourself to attack effectively, not opening yourself to counters. Once you understand all these axioms from the 15 basic lessons. Then… let the games begin.
60 second lesson 14. Head movement, integrated with footwork and guard position. A moving target becomes harder to hit in the same way. a coin-toss is extremely unpredictable. Even though it only has two options. We have options to move in any of the 10 directions. And they must all be explored for options. #martialarts #kickboxing #wako #mma #boxing #teacher #fy #fyp #foryoupage #explorepage #exploremore #fun #fitness #training
60 second lesson 13. Defence is a layer of ability that must be worked on and understood before you start sparring. We say there are 3 layers to defence 1. Footwork - don’t be in the position to get hit in the first place. 2. Blocking - stop attacks reaching their target by intercepting them during their journey. 3. Evasive head movement - slip, bob, weave, roll…
60 second lesson 12. Kicking combinations. Learn to play, make one kick flow into the next by using the stance and foot positioning as the bridges between movements. #kicking #martialarts #kickboxing #mma #boxing #wrestling #bagwork #fitness #gym #edlofts #worldchampion #wako #itf
60 second lesson 11. Back leg Round kick, the top priority on the stick is the safety of the supporting leg. The rotational power or torque from the kick must dissipate into the opponent and not into the supporting knee of the fighter, throwing the kick. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, meaning the power generated must be placed somewhere. Learn to pivot the base foot gaining stability and balance. This is achieved by keeping the knee in line with the direction, the toes are pointing. Depending on the target, either the shin, ankle or instep can be used to deliver the impact. I very rarely see people with correct alignment on these kicks, even at world-class level. Damage is done to the body through misaligned repetitive movements. Find your alignment.
60 second lesson 10 Back Leg Front kick/Push kick. It would normally be set up with some form of trap and fake. If thrown by itself it can lead to many openings and be countered very easily. The push kick is a basic weapon and has its uses when setting up for other kicking variations. Again this kick creates distance and can be used both offensively and defensively. The chamber to the kick is the key to making it work. #kickboxing #k1 #mma #boxing #worldchampion #coach #teaching #skills #student #martialarts #itf #fy #fyp #foryoupage #fypシ
60 second lesson 9. Basic punch combinations. With the correct stance a guard we can use work to manage distance in addition a protective line of defence can be created by our offensive movements. Basic boxing isn’t really basic it’s extremely detailed and can help combat athletes across many disciplines. My advice as always be a student of the Basics or you are the master of nothing other than some crap you made up in the McDojo #mma #kickboxing #boxing #basics #boxingtraining #wako #itf #fighting #worldchampion #coaching #lessons #coach #teacher #student #crossfit #athlete #sports #fyp #fy #fypシ
60 second lesson 8. The Cross, bringing the back hand in to play keeping in mind the back hand is the 3rd furthest limb out of 4 from your opponent. You don’t need a sledgehammer to crack a walnut. So this punch needs to be set up and timed accurately. Their are more dire consequences from mistiming a Cross than there are from a Jab or a front leg kick. Think of the Cross as the best trick of a magician, when delivered correctly it ends the show with a bang. #mma #kickboxing #training #crossfit #movement #martialarts #wako #itf #worldchampion #boxing #bjj #wrestling #fyp #practice #repeat #grow #evolution #foryou #foryoupage
60 second lesson 7 the Jab. An integral part of any martial artist arsenal. The Jab must be perfected offensively and defensively. Strategically the Jab can be used for set ups, angle changes, managing distance, changing timing, fakes and forms a protective barrier. Stopping people at the exact distance we need them to be in order to deliver power shots from the other limbs. #boxing #kickboxing #mma #martialarts #wako #itf #wka #wku #wfmc #training #k1 #learning #fyp #fy #foryoupage #fypシ
60 second lesson 6 - Front leg round kick. Used effectively the front leg round kick can be used to move/herd your opponent where ever you want them. The important parts of the kick are the base leg and supporting foot. If you want longevity in your practice you better learn how to dissipate the energy from the kick into the pivot point of foot. It your knee and hip will pay the price. The kick requires many isolated movements integrated with one another in order to create a whip from the head all the way down to the foot.
60 second lesson 5 - striking is all about leverage, powerful strikes use body mechanics in order damage your opponent. Human beings intuitively know this, which causes the brain to select the most powerful tool for the job. However, you don’t need a sledgehammer to crack a walnut. In boxing the front hand Jab is used to set up many powerful attacks but the Jab has also won many people world level fights. In Kickboxing, karate or MMA the front leg can be used in the same way to maintain distance, and create the correct moment to apply the leverage of the backhand or back leg. My warning, for anybody always pressing forwards during fights is that a charging animal often falls into a traps and becomes the meal for the day. I do love sandwiches 🥪
60 second lesson 4 - Adding footwork to your stance and guard. The purpose of footwork is to stay balanced and deliver strikes, while also avoiding the opponents game plan. Think of yourself as a large stack of blocks. The center of mass (your accumulative bodyweight while moving) takes off and lands every time you change position in the space. Your footwork is used to regather the blocks into the correct alignment before you land, so it is ready for takeoff again as quickly as possible. In order to move fast, most people rush this process. The key here is that every movement (each footstep) should take its own amount of time. A cycle of this process completes a take off then a landing then re-stacking of the centre of mass on top of the feet. Quality striking always comes after correct placement of the feet. Because the feet move the brain 🧠 once the brain has moved the feet 👣
