There was a lot of sadness when the previous incarnation of the OB closed its doors, but we have some exciting news!
We are so happy to see this sleeping giant awaken once again and wish Jess Steele and her wonderful team all the luck and support. They have taken on a massive project, and we hope that the community embraces this new undertaking with open arms.

If you haven't already, please give their new page a like and see how you can get involved.
You're not going to want to miss out!

It’s taken a little bit longer than planned, but we are thrilled to bits to be announcing that we have EXCHANGED CONTRACTS on the Observer Building and will be holding the KEYS IN OUR HANDS on 13th February!

The building's development will be a stretching and long term undertaking for our team, but our tried and tested, locally rooted model of development is possibly the only viable way to rescue the beautiful space from cycles of resale and dereliction and realise its benefit locally.

We bought Rock House with just Β£80k left in the pot to renovate the building, and we now have a thriving mixed use space home to 43 businesses and 88 fantastic tenants, and an uplift in value of Β£1.3 million! Our approach to the Observer Building will be much the same - phased over years, with grants being sought along the way and the spaces within evolving with the people who occupy them.

The bigger picture is that we’re adding the Observer Building to a growing ecosystem of community-led spaces being developed in the White Rock neighbourhood. This includes 39 Cambridge Road, 12 Claremont, Rock House and the Alley through alliances with Heart of Hastings CLT, Project ArtWorks and the Alley Association. Through these connections, we strengthen and share the benefits of capped rent and locally rooted development across the neighbourhood. So more news to come on that!

Until then, if you have any ideas or questions please post on here or send to [email protected]. We will be resuming communication with prospective tenants and allies from today. Thanks for your patience!

It's with a heavy heart that the time has come for us to say goodbye to the thriving hub of community joy that has been the Observer Building.

We were fortunate enough to be able to continue to occupy this space after so much love and hard work from Dublin & Holland. It's been a privelage to have met and worked along side so many wonderful artists, musicians, innovative projects, performers and hard working people that care so much about making a difference. Also a big thank you to the owners of the building for letting us use the space, these opportunities don't come up often!

The building has attracted many creative people, a wonderful energy and has also had it's fair share of controversy and has certainly been a rollercoaster for us! Regardless of the ups and downs, we are hopeful that we have done our best to hold an exciting, accessible space for a town we are so passionate about.

Our last event will be October the 14th from 12pm to 12am, where we will be selling furniture and goodies (don't
worry artists and friends that have donated items your stuff is safe!) We'll be serving cut price booze, with live music from musicians and DJ's that have entertained us along the way.

This will be the last time we will be involved in events at The Observer Building, so please take the opportunity to say goodbye to us and keep an ear out for our upcoming events up until next Friday.

P.S. We will also have an opportunity for you to leave your mark (quite literally!) which will be revealed on the day.

We can't thank you all enough for your support, and any we'd love to see any photos you have of the building throughout it's time in Hastings.

See you on the street!

Please help a wonderful group of volunteers get back on their feet after Β£1000 worth of fireworks have been stolen from them! Here at the OB we have had our list of set backs and know the importance of compassion and support in times of need, let's show them that people are good!

The Hastings Borough Bonfire Society chairman is furious after around Β£1,100 worth of fireworks set to be used for the bonfire celebrations were stolen.
