Last year the LTA piloted the Young Person’s Welfare Ambassador (YPWA) programme with 23 children and young people across England, Scotland and Wales. With its success they are now developing the programme ready for launch later this year.
YPWAs are young people aged 14-24 who play an important role in safeguarding at LTA registered venues.
An Ambassador’s role is to:
Provide a young person’s voice and perspective to promote safeguarding and welfare at their venues
Raise awareness of safeguarding and welfare issues amongst members and players Gather feedback from young people to enable them to have a greater say in safeguarding discussions. Provide an important link between venue committees and children and young people.

St Andrew’s Prep Pupils Crowned U13 IAPS National Tennis Champions!
St Andrew’s Prep pupils Katie and Sienna have triumphed at the U13 IAPS National Tennis Championship held in Bristol to secure the prestigious title of National Champions.
St Andrew’s Prep pupils Sienna and Katie have triumphed at the U13 IAPS National Tennis Championship held in Bristol to secure the prestigious title of National Champions. Their remarkable victory caps off a season filled with both school and individual successes, showcasing their exceptional skill and determination.
The girls demonstrated teamwork and grit on day one with a win over Clifton College before playing local rival, Bede’s Prep, in the next round. The girls dominated both the singles and doubles matches and were propelled into a final against Stonyhurst, St Mary’s Hall.
In the thrilling final, Sienna set the tone with commanding 4-0 wins in her singles games and Katie displayed exceptional skill and perseverance in her matches which saw many games go to deuce. However, Katie’s confidence and tenacity shone through, and she secured the final victory with a thrilling 10-7 tie-break win.
Kerry Murray, Head of Sport at St Andrew’s Prep said, “The determination and sportsmanship that Sienna and Katie displayed throughout the competition were truly inspiring. Their teamwork and individual performances exemplify the spirit of our sports programme here at St Andrew’s Prep and we are incredibly proud of their achievement,”
Headmaster Tom Gregory added, “Sienna and Katie’s success at the IAPS National Tennis Championship is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the excellent coaching programme they benefit from here at St Andrew’s Prep. Their achievement is a source of immense pride for the school community, and we look forward to seeing their continued growth and success in the future.”

South East Area Trophy 16’s Boys
Venue: Surbiton
Captain : Post by Colin Piper
Players
Henry
Flynn
Savvily
Harrison
So after ten months of squad sessions, match day was finally here.
10am meet at Surbiton and straight in to court to warm up and get a feel for the grass.
We drew Kent in the first match and they were tough.
The team performed very well against quality opponents and on another day could’ve come away with the win instead of losing 4-2
Onto the 3/4th place play off against the old foes Surrey.
With the odds stacked against us again the boys came out of the blocks firing on all cylinders. 2 singles wins from Harrison & Savaliy
Henry had a tough day at the office and that’s always the way when having to play at No1 but as always he fought to the end.
2-1
Flynn is now involved in an absolute belter of a match and playing his heart out. Comes away with the win against a very awkward opponent.
3-1
We need one of the doubles to win the match.
Flynn was now playing in one leg with Henry being tasked with doing all the running. Somehow they very nearly pulled this off which would have been monumental. Great stuff from FM & HH
Harrison and Sav got the win by completely bossing the match from start to finish. Great mentality boys.
4-2
Fantastic day and some outstanding tennis played from all counties and our Sussex boys really did us proud.
Always good to get a win over the noisy neighbours as well.

As we expand our programme into the community over the next year, we are looking for a coach who enjoys the challenge of working within different environments and has a great personality and ability to communicate with children and adults. The role will involve weekend and evening work.
If you are interested in this role please email, Rhys Hanger, with a CV and covering letter at [email protected] with the email titled “SAS Coach”. Applications will close on 15th July 2024

16U Girls Surbiton Trophy 🏆
The girls finished 4th overall, they played some fantastic tennis on the lovely grass courts at Surbiton, especially in the doubles winning 3 out of the 4 matches. Lots of tie breaks throughout the day!
A great day and the girls should all be proud of the way they battled! 💪👏
A note from Coach Julie from today’s event 🎾
Lastly we are recognising Vanessa Prosser from Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club for National Volunteer week.
Vanessa has been a volunteer at the Club for many years and in a variety of roles, not just within tennis. Vanessa creates all our wonderful flower arrangements at the Club. She volunteers her time to assist the Tournament organiser with all the application processing involved alongside organising of the tournaments on the day though the team communications to the travel arrangements. Vanessa also assists on the day for all tournaments to ensure they are smoothly run. In addition to this Vanessa completes all administration processing for the Tennis Sussex league and she still finds time to volunteer as the Tennis Sub-Committee secretary. She spends hours each week giving her time and commitment to the Club and expects nothing in return. She is an incredible asset to the Club and we would be lost without her.
A big thankyou to Vanessa! 👏👏👏
Next up is Stuart Clark from Wadhurst Tennis Club, doing some fantastic sessions for disability tennis.
Stuart has been a key volunteer at Wadhurst Tennis Club for many years, coaching, running rusty racket sessions, and generally nurturing the love of tennis in juniors and adults alike. Most recently, he has taken it upon himself to organise and run regular disabled tennis sessions for students from The Mount (a specialist further education college providing care, support and engaged learning for students aged 16-25). This involved enlisting an army of volunteers and getting them trained, and planning and delivering tennis related games in a relaxed and fun environment. The feedback so far has been fantastic. Stuart is a kind, genuine, positive and selfless individual and we are lucky to have him.
A big thankyou to Stuart! 👏👏👏
Continuing our volunteer week, we are saying a special thankyou to Ian Sandman from Horsted Keynes TC.
Ian has led our committee for many years and always goes the extra mile . Nothing is too much bother and always available to help despite having a FT job and 2 teenage kids.
A big thankyou to Ian! 👏👏👏
Our next volunteer is Jean Cooke from Wickwoods County Club…
Jean is the ladies secretary for the Club and she does an outstanding job. When she took over she made a great impact to the ladies teams and really change the dynamic and there is now great morale within the team. She is always happy to help and support the club, she does a lot for us and we really appreciate her and her work.
A big thankyou to Jean! 👏👏👏
Now we are saying a big thankyou to Maire from Comptons Tennis Club…
Marie has been our membership secretary, and on the committee for ten years plus! She is regularly seen at the club doing a variety of jobs including…
- tending/making the hanging baskets and plants
- stocking, manning, and cleaning the bar area
- ensuring politely that those who haven’t paid membership have the opportunity to air their views prior to being reminded to renew!
- mastering the delights of Club Spark from it’s outset!
- gathering the information and then sending out our weekly news letter
- standing in when others drop out suddenly from numerous levels of matches
All with a direct, but amicable approach which never waivers!!
A big thankyou to Marie! 👏👏👏
We are continuing our Volunteer shout outs, next up is Ben White from Ifield Tennis Club.
Ben works really hard for the club, he leads our junior sessions every week giving the kids a fun hour of tennis, he regularly supports Rusty Rackets, he does all the social media, designs and prints all graphics for posters etc, Captain for Men’s doubles team for Weald League, is on the Committee, supports social tennis sessions and was a HUGE support in the regeneration of our club.
A big thankyou to Ben! 👏👏👏
Next up is Chris Marsh from Crablands Bowling & Tennis Club!
A lovely nomination for Chris detailing all her hard work she does for the club…
Chris has been a member of Crablands for 10 years and for the past 8 years Chris has been a valueable member of the Tennis Committees.
Chris is responsible for our membership, working tirelessly each year to ensure the smooth running of our membership renewals and database.
She is the front face of the club - the person who people meet when they join the club, the person our members go to when they have questions re tennis coaching, club sessions, socials.
Chris will always be there at any social fund raising event - always wanting to support the tennis section and the club as a whole.
Her love of the game and her passion and enthusiasm towards Crablands Tennis Club is palpable. She is one of our most popular members and with good reason. She very much deserves to be recognised!
Big thankyou to Chris! 👏👏👏
