So excited to welcome IT’S THE ECONOMY, STUPID! to HAC on Fri 7 March, 7.30pm!
https://helmsleyarts.co.uk/whats-on/its-the-economy-stupid
Based on a true story of a family caught up in the 90s recession, It’s the Economy, Stupid! reveals the humanity behind economics. Armed with bags, boxes and an old board game, Joe Sellman-Leava and Dylan Howells embark on a quest to uncover how the economy wins elections, and why the force that dominates our lives is so bloody complicated!

Developed with and directed by internationally acclaimed Katharina Reinthaller, and produced by Worklight Theatre, It’s the Economy, Stupid! is a bold new play from the Fringe First winning creators of Labels and Fanboy, touring the UK after its sold-out, critically acclaimed run at Edinburgh Fringe!

Amy Johnson: Last Flight Out - Sat 22 February, 7.30pm!
https://helmsleyarts.co.uk/whats-on/amy-johnson-last-flight-out

Born in the year the Wright Brothers made their first flight and into an age where the romantic heights of flying captured her heart, Amy Johnson became the second woman in the world to qualify as a ground engineer and then, in 1930, the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia.

Amy lived her life for adventure and the future of aviation. In January 1941, at just 37 years old, Amy was killed while serving her country on a routine flight for the Air Transport Auxiliary.

In her short time this ‘lone girl flier’ achieved so much while faced with challenges of all kinds.

We meet Amy in a world of memories, desires, wishes and ambitions. As we find out about her life we start to see how the pieces fit and the tools Amy used to bring her dreams to reality.

Written and performed by Jenny Lockyer. Directed by Vern Griffiths.

David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch) and Cush Jumbo (The Good Wife, Criminal Record) lead a stellar cast in an ‘enthralling’ (★★★★★ Daily Telegraph) new production of Shakespeare’s MACBETH, filmed live at the Donmar Warehouse in London, especially for the big screen. Unsettling intimacy and brutal action combine at breakneck speed as Max Webster (Life of Pi, Henry V) directs this tragic tale of love, murder, and nature’s power of renewal. With staging ‘full of wolfish imagination and alarming surprise’ (★★★★★ The Guardian), the immersive 5.1 cinema surround sound places the audience inside the minds of the Macbeths, asking are we ever really responsible for our actions?

HAC’s first Open Mic of 2025 is a nod to Burns Night! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🎶

Always fun, social and entertaining, join us as we celebrate local (and who knows from further away!) talent, in the warm, cosy and comfortable Studio Bar at HAC.

A social evening, as much for those wanting to take part and get behind the mic as it is for those wanting to sit quietly as an audience member and enjoy the talent on offer.

Think ballads, folk, acoustic, jazz music...anything goes! (It doesn’t have to be Scottish!)

The bar will be open serving beer from Helmsley Brewery and Brass Castle Brewery, gin and wine from Helmsley Wines and more....(Whisky might make an appearance!!)

If you wish to perform you will be welcomed with open arms, and those simply wanting to watch are in for a real treat.

A great way to start the New Year, and say goodbye to January which, let's face it, can be a little challenging!

Cheers to getting through January! 💪🏽

Free entry - everyone welcome.
PA provided.

Burns Night is annually celebrated in Scotland on or around January 25. It commemorates the life of the bard Robert Burns, born on January 25, 1759. The day celebrates Burns' contribution to Scottish culture and began when friends of Burns threw a poetry night to celebrate Burns five years after his early death. Burns, born to a tenant farmer, wrote poetry his whole life, about nature, class, revolution, what it meant to be Scottish.
