English Art Before the Reformation
A Talk by Tim Clark - September 17th at 7:45, Lapworth Village Hall

I am sorry to have to announce that we have had to make a change to the planned talk for our next meeting on Tuesday 17th September. Our speaker, Andrew Reekes, who was to have talked to us about the work of the Civic Gospel in Birmingham, has had to cancel for personal reasons.

We have been fortunate in persuading Tim Clark, who is already scheduled to talk to us in December on the subject of the Beauchamp Chapel in St Mary’s Warwick, to give an additional talk for our September meeting on English Art Before the Reformation. Tim explains that ‘It’s thought that over 90% of English art was destroyed in the Reformation, but it’s still possible to find some fascinating and stunning art that survived. Tim will be reviewing some of the key pieces that we can still enjoy and show how English art evolved over the centuries.’

As well as giving us a bit of history of the art from the period when the Beauchamp Chapel was built and, as he disarmingly says, allowing him to show us lots of pretty pictures, this talk will provide some useful context for his talk in December.

We hope to reschedule Andrew Reekes for a later date.

The banners are up so don’t forget, “Scarecrows in Lapworth “ is happening next Saturday, 10.30 to 4pm. We have lots of unusual scarecrows being built and they will all be displayed around the village . Enjoy a nice circular walk around Lapworth, stopping off at The Village Hall for home made cakes, tea and coffee (kindly run by Lapworth WI ) or a thirst quenching drink from the licensed bar (kindly run by Lapworth Players). Ice cream available, stalls and games.
All the profits going to our Lapworth local groups and Lapworth school.

Scarecrows in Lapworth, September 7th is getting closer.
I would firstly like to thank everyone who has contacted us saying they are building a scarecrow. I hope the building is going well. If you need free wood, chicken wire and straw let me know and I will try to help. The day relies on keen volunteers building the scarecrows. It’s still not too late to build one.
Don’t forget the theme is The Land of Fairy Tales.
It’s Free to enter and there are prizes for The Best, The Funniest and The Scariest Scarecrow.
Here’s hoping we have a dry and sunny day .

The banners are now up for our Scarecrows in Lapworth Day on 7th September. Hope your scarecrow building is progressing well if you have already offered to build one. If not … why not? You still have plenty of time to build one. The more the better and it’s all for some great local causes.

We are finalising the location of the scarecrows on the walking route, which will be marked on the plan of the village which we will then be selling for £2. If you are building a scarecrow can you please advise us of the address where the scarecrow is to be located so that we can put you on the map.

Scarecrows at Lapworth - 7th September

We are actively looking for volunteers to design and build a scarecrow for our Scarecrow Festival.

There will be a walking route so we are keen for houses to place a scarecrow in their front gardens on Saturday 7th September.

The theme is

" The Land of Fairy Tales "

The walking route will start at the Village Hall, turning right along The Old Warwick Road to the Navigation then back to and along Station Lane (possibly into Kingswood Close and Priory Close) then left up Rising Lane to The Punch Bowl, down Mill Lane, over the canal bridge and then left along The Old Warwick Road, returning to the hall.

It's free to enter and erect a scarecrow and there will be prizes for the best .

Teas and coffee, plus delicious scarecrow cakes will be available to buy at the hall, plus we hope ice cream and of course a bar!

If you are happy to build a scarecrow but are not on the walking route , don't worry, we hopefully will be able to accommodate your scarecrow and find a great spot for it to be placed in the village.

We can transport all friendly and even scary scarecrows .

Please get your thinking caps on as to what scarecrow you can build. The more the better .

Please don't hesitate though to call me if you need any help , guidance or encouragement.

This event will of course only be successful if we receive enough volunteers to build the scarecrows, so looking forward to a great village response.

The course is an excellent way to learn or update your skills on the use of the defibrillator which is situated outside the Village Hall and hopefully everyone should get some hands-on experience (using a dummy!).
Numbers attending are restricted to 30 in total and some of the places will need to be allocated to representatives of the major user groups. However, there will be spare places. Attendance at the session is free but you will need to book a place, if you want to participate, and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
