The Old Milking Parlour at Cavokay House is a privately owned rural barn venue for bespoke weddings situated in the beautiful Blackmore Vale on the Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire borders. As the name suggests, the building is a former milking parlour dating from the 1700s. It is built of local stone and so retains it's olde-world rustic charm. The Old Milking Parlour is licensed for weddings by

Somerset County Council. For your convenience and peace of mind we have approved suppliers for bar, catering and marquee hire. Unlike many barn venues, The Old Milking Parlour has all the infrastructure you need already in place and included in the price. There are high quality toilets - Ladies, Gents and Disabled - a bar, a catering kitchen and a 56 vehicle car park. Not to mention a professional quality sound system and a dance floor. There are twenty 6ft tables and 120 chairs included in the hire fee. But if you'd prefer to hire in tables and chairs of a different style, that's just fine. There is a level south facing lawn for chatting and mingling - and plenty of room for a marquee (there is no surcharge for setting up a marquee). Access to the twelve-acre grounds is included in the hire price. There are lawns, woods, a stream, winding paths and sun-dappled glades. If you want a marquee, bouncy castle or even a place to land your helicopter there is plenty of room. You can decorate The Old Milking Parlour in your own taste and style, so presenting a unique experience to your guests. Your personal control of every aspect (including cost) of the big day is assured at The Old Milking Parlour - there are no hidden extras. We even have a selection of wedding props such as milk churns, candelabra and even a carriage (no horse, sorry!) available for photgraphic use at no extra cost. The hire fee includes exclusive use of the venue for a day of setting-up and preparation prior to your big day - so you can enjoy the build up (and maybe even have a few practices to perfect your first dance in private if you wish!). Included in the hire price are two three-hour visits for suppliers such as photographer, florists or caterers in the months prior to your event. Accessibility is no problem at The Old milking Parlour; it is close to the A30 and approximately seven miles south of the A303. The main-line station of Templecombe is about 3 miles away and for those arriving by air, Henstridge Airfield is close by. We'd love to show you around our little slice of paradise. So if you think The Old Milking Parlour might be the place for your perfect day, do please contact us.

One of the absolute joys of our job is when couples do us the honour of sending us their wedding day galleries. We are often so busy working in the background on wedding days that we don't get to see things, and of course there are always those moments that only the photographer gets to see in their entirety, such as the confetti shots and the couple portraiture.
Thank you, Rach and Mike for sending us your beautiful gallery this evening, we've had such a lovely time reliving your day and are so looking forward to sharing more of these gorgeous moments captured by JTP Productions

Well, I learned recently that there is such a thing as 'National Redhead Day' and it falls each year on November 5th.

Of course, to celebrate, I had to share these images of our very own redhead, 'Emmy Hemmy' aka Emily Hemmings.

So today, we honour all our redheaded followers out there. I'm also sending an especially big hug and kiss to my beautiful redheaded cousin Sophie.

These images: From a night photo shoot here at The Old Milking Parlour at Cavokay House. Emily's beautiful red hair was styled by Maria Lucas Hair & Makeup Artist and features a super pretty hair vine created by Tessa's Tiaras . Maria also did Emily's make up . Emily is wearing a beautiful boho gown from Bridal Reloved , and the jeweled bouquet she's carrying was by Tessa's Tiaras . The moments were captured by Photosbyjim

We are incredibly grateful to have been chosen by such wonderful couples to host their wedding day, it really is such an honour, and we are looking forward to helping to create some beautiful memories.

Meanwhile, we hope that you all enjoy and find inspiration for your special day from these images from a very beautiful sage green themed photo shoot here at The Old Milking Parlour at Cavokay House. The props and styling were by the fabulous Naomi of The Wedding Library Dorset and the chair sashes and table runners were by the superb and our old friend Greg of captured the images.

One of the absolute privileges and joys of our job is that we get to see The Old Milking Parlour and grounds come to life with our couples' styling.

There is a magic to wedding mornings.

We feel it as we set up the outside P.A.,do our final sound checks and all of our other 'on the day' jobs.

We feel it as we put the final touches in, wiping the morning dew from the chairs and putting more delicate items such as table plans outside...

These tasks always takes me twice as long as they should because I inevitably stop every few minutes to gaze around me and remark to Colin, "Doesn't it look lovely though" and I pause to take it all in.

I took this pic on the morning of Rach and Mike's day. I stood far too long at this spot taking lots of photos from lots of angles, but this is my favourite pic.

Thank you, Rach and Mike for allowing us to share moments from your day here at The Old Milking Parlour at Cavokay House.

Thank you so very much Sally and Matt for taking the time to give us such a wonderful five star Google review.

We so enjoyed the planning journey with you and were so excited when your wedding day finally arrived. You looked utterly beautiful and the day seemed to pass by in a flash of love and fun.

We couldn't do what we do without our super team of approved suppliers - we are incredibly grateful to Dorset Delights Catering Ethic Street Pizza Outside Bars Dorset and our house DJ RS Sound and Entertainment for not only always doing such a great job on the day but for their excellent behind the scenes support and communication too.

We also take our hats off to the ever lovely team at Somerset Wedding Registration Service for a beautiful ceremony.

The fabulous Becky Weir Photography took these beautiful images and it was great to see her back at The Old Milking Parlour again, as she worked her photographic magic.

Sally and Matt, what a beautiful, memorable day. We wish you every happiness in your life together.

Our Story

The Old Milking Parlour at Cavokay House is a privately owned rural D.I.Y. function venue situated in the beautiful Blackmore Vale on the Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire borders. As the name suggests, the building is a former milking parlour dating from the 1700s. It is built of local stone and so retains it's olde-world rustic charm. The Old Milking Parlour is available to hire for wedding receptions, civil partnership celebrations, christening parties and other family occasions. It is also available for seminars and training workshops. There is no corkage or preferred suppliers - which means that when you hire The Old Milking Parlour, you are able to create your own bespoke occasion which is as unique as you are. Unlike many D.I.Y. venues, The Old Milking Parlour has all the infrastructure you need already in place and included in the price. There are high quality toilets - Ladies, Gents and Disabled - a bar and a 56 vehicle car park. Not to mention a professional quality sound system and a dance floor. There are twenty-three 6ft tables and 120 chairs included in the hire fee. But if you'd prefer to hire in tables and chairs of a different style, that's just fine. Access to the twelve-acre grounds is included in the hire price. There are lawns, woods, a stream, winding paths and sun-dappled glades. A 2.5 acre field serves as a camping field if required. Panoramic country views abound. If you want yurts, a marquee, bouncy castle or even a place to land your helicopter there is plenty of room. You can decorate The Old Milking Parlour in your own taste and style, so presenting a unique experience to your guests.
