For all those not focused on Burns Night at the moment (and if you are, I hope you managed to catch your wild haggis), it's only a week and a half till the next First Tuesday session at the Great Eastern.

Join us on Tuesday 4th February for an evening of music, chat and chip butties. Bring along your voice or instrument, or just come along to listen — whatever you prefer, you'll be welcome. We tend to define "folk" loosely ("It's all folk music, I ain't never heard a horse sing") so whatever you fancy singing and playing, we'd love to hear you.

We start at 8pm and carry on till exhaustion and old age drive us away. So join us and have a great evening.

Christmas is gone and New Year will soon be past. And that means only one thing — it's nearly time for the first First Tuesday of 2025.

Join us at the Great Eastern Tavern on Tuesday 7th for an evening of great music, great craic and great chip butties. Whether you bring an instrument, a whole collection of instruments, a voice or simply a pair of ears, you'll be very welcome.

We kick off at 8 pm and go on till we stop, so get down to the Great Eastern and join us for a melange of melifluous melodies (or a load of great tunes, if you prefer).

I can't believe it's only a fortnight till the final Great Eastern session of the year. Come and join us on Tuesday 3rd December for great music, great craic and great chip butties.

Whether you want to sing, play or just listen, you'll be very welcome. Play what you like - if you can play it informally, it counts as folk. And, if you've never played in public before, it's the ideal place to start - everyone will be rooting for you.

As it's the December session, you can expect to hear a few seasonally related songs, but that's not compulsory. We kick off around 8 pm and finish whenever we finish. But it's best to arrive early to get one of the better chairs.

See you there.

It's only about a fortnight till the next First Tuesday - on the 5th of November, no less. So, if you can tear yourself away from the artillery barrages - sorry, firework displays - why not come down to the Great Eastern in Hertford for an evening of music, great craic and chip butties.

Bring along your voice, your instruments (as many as you like) or just a pair of ears, if you prefer to simply listen. Whatever music you want to play is fine with us, as long as it doesn't involve backing trackings or autotune.

We start around 8pm, and the place tends to get packed, so come early. And we carry on until it comes to a natural end. I'd love to see you - it's going to be explosive.

We've nearly reached the equinox, which means it won't be long till October. And, on the very first day of October, we'll be having the next session at the Great Eastern in Hertford.

Join us for a great evening of music, talk and chip butties. It doesn't matter what you sing or play – if you can sit or stand in the bar doing it, you'll be welcomed with open arms. Or if you just want to listen, that's fine too.

So come along on Tuesday 1st October and bring along your voice, your instrument or your ears. We start at 8pm, but best be there early – it can get crowded.

August seems to be vanishing at an alarming rate, and that means it will soon be the First Tuesday of September. On 3rd September, we'll be having our monthly session at the Great Eastern — and everybody's welcome.

Whether you sing, play or simply listen, we'd love to see you for great music, great craic and chip butties. We don't mind what you want to play — as long as it's not karaoke or using autotune, it's fine with us.

We start at 8pm, but you might want to get there early, as it gets crowded quickly. And we finish whenever we run out of steam. Join us for an unforgettable evening.

We're more than halfway through July (how did that happen?) which means we're closing fast on the First Tuesday in August. And that means we'll be gathering in the Great Eastern in Hertford for an evening of great music, random chat and chip butties.

Join us on 6th August at 8pm till whatever time we run out of steam. You're very welcome to bring along your voice, your instrument (or instruments, in John's case), or just a pair of ears, if your prefer to listen.

Though we're a folk session, almost anything is welcome (with the exception of lip-synching and autotune). If you can sing it sitting around in a pub, it's folk.

See you there.

It's nearly the end of June, which means it's nearly the beginning of July. And, since July has a First Tuesday, the next session of the Great Eastern is coming up.

Join us on Tuesday 2nd July for a great evening of music, song and craic. Bring your voice, instrument(s) or just your ears - everyone's welcome, and pretty much anything goes musically. Unless you're using autotune, that is.

We kick off around 8pm and go on till we run out of steam, so come along and join us.

A little late this month, due to indulging to excess in an anti-social habit called work - but tomorrow (Tuesday 4th) is the Great Eastern session.

Bring along your voice, instrument (or instruments, in John's case) or just a pair of ears - everyone's welcome. Any music is welcome, as long as it doesn't involve lip-syncing or autotune.

We usually kick off about 8pm and carry on till we run out of steam, so come early to get a good seat. Or, to put it another way, a seat. see you tomorrow

Apparently everyone else is distracted … but unless I’m mistaken it’s folk night tomorrow!

Yes, for the second month running, the first Tuesday is the day after a Bank Holiday. We're going to have to have a word with whoever plans these things.

Regardless, it's time to gather at the Great Eastern for merriment, mirth and music. Bring along your voice, your instrument(s) or just a pair of ears if you prefer, for a great evening of what we loosely define as folk music.

We get going around 8pm on Tuesday evening and carry on till some point after 11. Come early to make sure you get a good place, and have a great time. See you there.

This Tuesday might be the day after bank holiday, but it's also the First Tuesday of April, and you know what that means.

We'll be gathering at the Great Eastern in Hertford for an evening of music and craic, and you're very welcome. Bring along a voice, a guitar, a fiddle, a squeezebox, a ukelele, a bodhran, a dulcitar, a djembe or simply a pair of ears - all are equally fine.

We start around 8pm and go on till either we or the pub run out of steam. But the place tends to fill up, so it's best to come early to get a seat.

See you Tuesday.

This Tuesday, the 5th, we're back at the Great Eastern pub for another night of music, random talk and chip butties. We had a great time last month, so why not come along to see what's going on?

Whether you play, sing or just want to listen, you'll be extremely welcome.. We have no restrictions on musical style, as long as you can play it sitting around in a pub, so feel free to bring along something unusual. But it's best to get there early - the place tends to fill up quickly.

We start at 8pm and finish whenever we get chucked out, so I hope to see you on Tuesday.
