My last wedding! Retiring from wedding photography has been a hard decision, it’s something I’ve loved doing for 30+ years but my knees disagree 😔 My favourite thing about weddings, especially in the last few years is working with some hugely talented and lovely fellow photographers, especially . It’s also very special when I get a wedding referral because that means I get to see previous brides and grooms - and their children 🥹 - at the weddings of their friends or family. I’m getting married myself this year to and am looking forward to not picking up a camera! 😝 My friends Alison and Simon from will be there to capture my special day perfectly. I had a lovely day with Nicky and Ben at their wedding on Friday, here’s a few photos from their day.

I know I’ve told many brides and grooms this, but here’s the origins.

Brides Stood On The Left Side So The Groom Could Easily Draw His Sword

The historically known practice of "marriage by capture," where a man captures a woman to make her his bride, has been practiced for thousands of years. Though it may seem like a long-gone custom of the past, the practice still exists among some cultures in Africa and Central Asia. In the Western world, its legacy continues on in an unsuspecting way - where the bride and groom stand during a wedding ceremony. As is common in modern nuptials, the groom was to stand on the right and the bride on the left. This was so the groom could keep his right arm free to draw his sword, in case someone came to take the (captured) bride away.

Had a great time capturing at H&R’s wedding at Impression events venue last night. Lots of photos, lots of fun, amazing people! We spent 2 hours taking 100 photos of guests and adding them to a guest book, we brought sharpies and sticky tape plus extra film, cameras and batteries. Everyone loved it. Prices from £300.
