Just on the off chance that you haven't seen this yet, the date for this year's Highworth Jazz Festival has been announced (along with the news of some of the artists that will be appearing).
For anyone that went to 2024's festival, you'll know that it was a great day and this year's promises to be bigger, better and... um (thinking of another B word...) Brilliant!

A question arose Monday evening of why the musicians had to travel so far - one came from Bath, another from Bristol - and the answer is that musicians that love playing jazz from the 1920's and 1930's - so pre be-bop - are few and far between.
So are there any musicians more local that play guitar, clarinet, trumpet, violin or even the accordion??

I know I say it every month but what a night that was last night!
Thank you to the brilliant 'Hotclub of Highworth' that were put together especially for the gig.
Some of these musicians had never met before last night so it was a case of 'play and see where it takes you', but I think everyone had a great time.
Thank you to everyone that attended, your support for these nights are absolutely crucial in allowing them to continue so thank you so much for your continued support.

Well what an evening last night turned out to be, thank you to everyone that came to play and also to those that grabbed a drink, found a chair and simply enjoyed the mish mash of songs, styles and personalities.
We're just trying to work out who will be playing next month but we'll see you again on Monday 10th February.

2025 is here and to kick start the year we're hosting the January Jazz Jam on Monday 13th Jan, obviously I've left myself a tiny window to organise and attract musicians but lets see how we get on.
These evenings have been really popular in the past so I'm hoping this will be the same.

How about our usual Jazz Jam in Jan (hey that's snappy, I might remember that!) to blow away the tinsel and leftovers!
This is just as you would expect, some jazzers meet up, bring an instrument and play whatever they feel like, we could get sax, trumpets, drums, piano, bass show up but we might also get treated to singers, guitar, violin... anything. It's always a great event so get involved or come to simply enjoy the music.

A huge thank you to Skylarks for coming to The Wine Bar - Highworth on Monday and entertaining the audience with some great instrumental jazz from The Thames Trio and also some wonderful vocal work. I was more than happy to sit back, have a drink and listen.
I'm still desperate to win 'Worst Gig Photo of the Year 2024' and my latest entry is a strong contender (special mention to the fact that I missed out the drummer and guitarist... sorry chaps)

Has it stopped raining yet? I'm afraid to look outside in case I feel the urge to inflate a dinghy and paddle off to better conditions (although it's a long way to the Med!)
Well to battle the elements and stay indoors with a drink and some live music sounds good to me and it just so happens that this very thing is happening TONIGHT!

Next up at The Wine Bar on Monday 14th October (so two weeks today!) we have Skylarks visiting us.
A three-part vocal harmony with guitar, bass and drums - Thames Trio - bringing some American Songbook-style jazz.
It might even be enough to lift the gloomy October weather.
